Harmonix's Rock Band Blitz is coming to Xbox Live Arcade and PSN. It was revealed on G4's X-Play (http://www.g4tv.com/videos/58009/harmonix-announces-rock-band-blitz/) this evening, and showed gameplay similar to that of Rock Band Unplugged (http://www.joystiq.com/game/rock-band-unplugged/). Dispensing with peripherals, the controller-based gameplay has dexterous finger gymnasts cruising down a note highway, hitting blocks and switching between instruments for maximum scores.

The title will launch with 25 tracks, but the real coup is that the game can access the current Rock Band library on your console. The game also has access to the Rock Band Music Store for more DLC, meaning there are potentially over 3,500 tracks to import. As a bonus, the 25 songs that are bundled with the game are playable in Rock Band 3 (http://joystiq.com/game/rock-band-3).http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif (http://www.joystiq.com)Rock Band Blitz announced for PSN/XBLA, can access existing Rock Band DLC (http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/03/rock-band-blitz/) originally appeared on Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com) on Tue, 03 Apr 2012 18:58:00 EST. Could this be a quasi-revival of FreQuency and/or Amplitude?

Sign me up if so.

Looks like it.

I didn't care much for Rock Band Unplugged on the PSP (especially considering that you had to purchase tracks separately from your Rock Band 1/2/3 purchases) but with a Dual Shock 3, everything on a big TV screen and access to my existing Rock Band library, as a huge fan of Frequency and Amplitude, they have my attention.

Pants shitting. Long have I waited for a new game in this style.

That's also the first thing that came to mind, and I'm personally glad that there'll be a sequel in all but name to FreQuency/Amplitude (I suppose that Sony, not Harmonix, own the names?). But will people be willing to jump into that type of gameplay after the whole GH/RB fad?

Probably not, but if you think about it, they weren't really willing to jump into Frequency and Amplitude either!

We're back to ground-zero on the music/rhythm genres on consoles.

As a big fan of amplitude and frequency I am pretty excited for this.
