View Full Version : Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Revivals
What has Tim Schafer inspired?!?! Oh that's right, an attempt to resurrect Leisure Suit Larry in glorious 2D HD (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1451923705/make-leisure-suit-larry-come-again).
Looks like those lousy venture capitalists got cold feet and ran away. Will fans crowd-source this expanded game remake? The goal is already at $142,897 pledged of its $500,000 goal...

I'm looking forward to this one since Al Lowe is involved.

Sweet! Did you see the donation awards for various tiers? The ones up to $100 are quite realistic, but when you get to $1,000, $2,500, $5,000+ donation levels, the awards are insane. You can basically get your name in the game at that point, or your dog could be the one that urinates on Larry in the alley. If I was only a millionaire.

I really hope this goes well, it will only help lead the way to more point and click adventure revivals..still holding my breath for new entries or remakes in the space/kings quest lines - or how about some classic westwood adventure games..my favorite pc game series of all time ::drum roll:: Legends of Kyrandia - someday I hope to see Malcolm back :)

Not sure if I'm interested in this one, mostly due to having next to no experience with the Leisure Suit Larry series. Something I plan on solving once I do a bit more reading on this ScummVM thing.

ScummVM is basically like DosBox for classic Lucas Arts games - its an emulator and it works pretty well.

Yeah, that's what I'm reading. I like to know a bit about an emulator before I download one. Something to mess about with later.

It's not just for LucasArts games anymore, they expanded the compatibility for a wide variety of games.

Nice, had no idea. Loved using it for Lucas games, but didn't realize they added sierra support as I much prefer ScummVM to DOSBox BY FAR.
Gonna get back into it just to have a go at:
Quest for Glory 1 VGA remake
Quest for Glory 2
Quest for Glory 3

Awesome, thanks for the heads up! I will have to start using it for more than LA games. DosBox can be annoying.

Just saw this (http://games.slashdot.org/story/12/04/18/2013213/leisure-suit-larry-comes-again-video) post on Slashdot, and then came over here to do a forum search and see if this had been discussed. This is awesome. I am definitely going to be giving some money!
The interview in the video from the above link Al Lowe talks about the Kickstarter fundraiser. Pretty good interview...
Da-da-da-daaaa! The goal of $500,000 has been surpassed and with six days still left to go. Looking at the list of updates to the project, there sure are a lot of funny videos and interesting interviews for those who want to watch them (for free, of course).
Congrats, Al Lowe "Vera," it couldn't have happened to a more classic developer - and by classic, I don't just mean old!

Larry was a product of his time.
Don't really see this having much impact or success.

Quest for Glory 3You should stick with the free fanmade QFG2 remake, probably. There's quite a few fanmade Sierra remakes floating about at this point; I've almost lost track. Even the Two Guys from Andromeda (http://guysfromandromeda.com/) have returned.

Don't really see this having much impact or success.Last time this came up (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?157294-Leisure-Suit-Larry-HD-Next-Year), I commented that the Larry games do indeed not seem to be particularly "good". Of course, they might be aiming to remedy some of the gameplay problems this time, but if they're going to change it that much, why bother with a "remake" at all?
Why bother with a "remake" at all?
Business politics. The current rights-holder of the LSL franchise, Codemasters, doesn't want to trust the guys at this new company to make a new LSL game until they can prove themselves with a remake first.
