i ordered a loose 32x system and need to know what the powersupply is supplying(voltage) the 32x and what amp it is!
i may try a litthium battery 9v and tip mod
also i order a link cable for 32x to genesis 2
i also need to get a power adapter and video cable for the genesis 2
you may be like why do i need all those thing?
i recieved a free sega genesis with 12 game ,even a n64 game and a saturn video rf cable
all 6 sonic games were included and work on both retroduo and retron3

As the 32x uses the same AC Adapter a Model 2 Genesis does, would that give you the info you need on voltage?

ok thank you very much! Does a segacd also use a same powersupply?
but would a lithuim 9v to the 32x be a good ok mod?

Both Sega CDs use the Genesis Model 1 power supply. The Genesis 2 ps will NOT work.

Ok thank you also i will make sure that i have complete segacd if i get one
But is there a way to mod or make the genesis 2 and 32x run off the same power supply?
Sorry for all the questions but this my first time with the sega genesis 32x i always had clone systems

well i didn't want to go that far for a neptune but the idea is pretty sweet
what i meant was cut the end of the genesis 2 powersupply and ad 2 tips to it so no additional power is needed or just do a 9v battery like i was saying

That wouldn't provide enough current to power both units properly, you need a separate adapter for each unit. You need to have enough amps to do it, it's not just the voltage.

Well ok but would a universal powersupply with 2amp work?

Maybe, but not worth the guess work, just get another Genesis 2 power supply and be done with it. Sega 32X systems are a pain in the ass, and have only 1-2 games that are worth the trouble

ok will do
but i have been cooking up in my brain a all in one system just using the powersupplies like u said and be done with it!
maybe some time i will get a pc clear case and mod it

There is a way to run the 32X off the Genesis power supply. You have to make your own cable that goes from the Genesis to the 32X and connect every pin. I found this out by connecting bare wires from my Genesis to 32X before I got the official cable and the 32X worked without a power supply.
I wouldn’t really recommend it but it will work.

Well I decided that I wanted to do a pc case with extra console a have laying around and I might just use a serge protector in the process

So are you saying you connect all the pins from the AV on the Genesis to the AV In on the 32x and it powers it? That would mean there's a 5V or something in one of the pins which sounds reasonable to me.
I think the Longhorn Engineer runs them both (Gen and 32x) off a single stock Model 2 Genny power supply in a later iteration of the hardware he puts together.

yep, it's the only pin (I think) that's not connected with the official cable.

I think Longhorn piggy backs the power connectors inside his Neptune and uses a different power cord with 10V - 2~3Amp to give enough power to both systems. That's how this guys (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-8k55lpi9c) Neptune is powered.
I would think using the method I mention for a prolonged time would eventually burn out a standard PCU.

In the original version of the Neptune he used a custom power supply, but in his how to guide (http://longhornengineer.com/diy/neptunehowto/) he mentions using a stock adapter instead.
The first Neptune I built can be found here. Since then I have updated the design to require only one power supply. The Genesis 2 and 32X module can run off of 650mA which is under the 850mA that the stock power supply offers. You may wonder why Sega didn’t just have the 32X draw power from the cart slot or just have a jumper cable running from the back of the Genesis power supply to the 32x? Well the cart slot can’t power the amp hungry 32x but I don’t know why Sega went with a separate power supply over a just a splitter/jumper.
However, the odd thing is that when I was looking through that guide again I never explicitly see him talk about tapping the power off the Genesis for the 32X to use. He could have just implied it or, gone with the custom adapter like he had previously. Hmmmm.

Well if someone figures this powersuppyly to be one rather than 2 I ran past my friend about making a multi-in one pc gaming machine!
Systems:
Ps2 slim
Ps2 fat with no cdvd drive
Retron3
Genesis 2 with 32x
And maybe a 360!

BTW a PS2 slim power supply SHOULD work on the 32X, it does work on a Sega CDX which is the same connector at a higher amperage.

Xbox 360
Gen2 with 32x
But the wii will be able to be taken in and out so i can take it places

I have done this. I seem to remember leaving one pin disconnected. Must've been the 5v. I had all the power supplies though. Ugly but it works.
