Hi guys, long time no see, been maybe a year since i last visited these forums?

Anyway, onto the story: About 3 or so weeks ago, i was at the Capital Flea market in San Jose, as I always am. I saw a peculiar object, a clear cased original xbox. I never really got into collection xboxes, but hey, maybe it's some neat promo or something right? I kneel down and see DEVELOPMENT KIT blazed on the front in green text, and then i knew it might be special. Asking price? 20 dollars. Ouch, a little steep for a gamble, after all, it could just be a case mod. I paid the 20 and ran though. I never paid much attention to it, just sitting in my game room. but with spring break upon me, i decided to do a bit of research.

Seems they go for a tad more than 20 dollars, according to some niche xbox forum i came upon:

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/lofiversion/index.php/t666765.html

that's one example i found of a sales thread with an actual price in it. I also found a thread of a guy who found one at a thrift shop for $195, and everyone was commenting how it was a steal.

So, DP, what do you think it is worth? judging form the few threads i've seen, the price is all over the place, but defiantly in the 3 digit range.

Here is my unit:

There is some sort of plastic damage on the bottom right corner, looks like it melted a bit. I also included a picture of the back and it's custom ports.

Assuming the unit comes with nothing but it self, what would you price it at? Any help is appreciated, and i must say, it's good to be back!

EDIT: some more info i came across, maybe it cna be of assistance? http://www.llamma.com/xbox/xbox_developer_kit.htm

I have no idea how much it is but it's sexy. I want one. If you find the right collector you can probably get atleast $200 for it. If you still have it in a few months I might even make you an offer once my funds start to go back up.

That's good to know. I have no intentions on keeping it, so the more it's worth, the better!

I bought my Xbox debug system for $100 and thats probably a bit easier to find than your development system. So based on that it should be worth more but thats just from my personal experience.

That Xbox-Scene thread had the Development Kit unit with the card and cable to connect it to one's computer... Without the card and cable, though, it's still something more than unusual. I'd think it was worth $250-$300 or so (a regular Xbox debugger generally goes for about $125-$150, assuming there's nothing fancy on the hard drive, i.e. unreleased games or something cool like that). For curiosity's sake, have you tried plugging it in to see if there's anything unusual stored on the hard drive?

Yeah, $250-350 is about right historically, but the price has fallen a bit over the years. I still think $200 would be reasonable, assuming it's never been opened. If the seal's been cracked, you're looking at closer to $100. Once people are mucking about in these things, they usually ruin them. Modders like to play with them and have no idea what they're doing.

Functionally, they're absolutely no different then the green debug kits aside from the connection to the PC (and all that does is let you emulate the disc drive).

Now there's a slight chance it's the DVT-3 model, which would be worth a lot more. Can you take a pic of the jewel on top? Is it metallic, or plastic? And what's the manufacture date?

EDIT: Just saw the pic you posted, it's the more common DVT-4 so the $200 range is probably about right.

Its a DVT4 ace,you can see the jewel from the pic.

Around 200 eh? Sounds fine to me. No, never powered it up, i don't own xbox hook ups since i was never interested in collecting for the system. I can get soem easily though, think it would make a difference to check? And Where do you think would be a good place to sell an item like this: Ebay or a specialty forum like the one i linked/DP?

Thanks for the help everybody, at least i have a solid price point now :)

EDIT: already got an offer of $200. That was fast! Still think it's work checking to see what's on it?

Go to http://www.assemblergames.com

and then what? I'm not sure how much help it will be.

They have the audience for this type of material for sure but there are many specific rules in place.

You can't do a price check on Assembler without asking a mod to post in a crowded special topic for you which never gets answered.

You can't just sign up and sell this either.

All Xbox dev items require a donation to the forums before you post it for sale.
You can't take offers and you have to have a set price.

I'm also not sure on the rules for new sellers.

Looks pretty lol. I actually bought a lot of Debug units from a guy on craigslist a few years back. 12 complete systems in total paid $70 lol. I've been selling them off for an average of $100-$150 a piece. I have two left for myself.

Wouldn't mind finding one of those to go with them.

The people there gave me some nice information, and i have received a few offers through PM. No mod has told me any different, but i hope i'm breaking no rules asking for help.

What i've gathered so far:

Worth about 200ish
check HDD

i do not have much to add on the basis of value but checking the harddrive is a MUST if it has nothing or a common game wont affect value if it has some rare unreleased game no one knows about it could be worth a lot more in the eyes of an x-box collector

I finally got around to testing the unit. Not only does it power up, but it had some files on it!

There's an album of all the files. some were...strange.

I doubt this raises the price any, but at least it works.

I would be interested in this for sure.

Yeah those look like basic preinstalled files. I have pretty much all that same software on the debug systems I have.

Explain the cable car video haha.

Pretty sure is was just a demo to show off how good the sofdec media codec worked.

not sure if this codec actually ended up getting used though.
