What do you think of this game? I've seen reviews online and they appear to be mixed. Is this thing worth $10 or not? I'm a pretty big MK fan, but like every sane person I lost interest in the franchise after Ultimate MK3. But now that I've thoroughly beaten the new MK, I'm kinda wanting to give some of the missed titles a second chance... Worth it, or should I turn away and never look back?

Holy crap, that game is absolutely TERRIBLE! I can't imagine an even remotely positive review existing for that game.

This, and I'm a big MK fan.

The live action cutscene videos on Youtube have a certain, um, charm.

I only had the demo (pizza used to be so much better 10+ years ago), but I don't remember it being *that* awful. Certainly wasn't my favorite, nor do I heartily recommend it, but it was a tad on the charming side (what, with all the gore and whatnot). If you're hoping to have a great experience after MK9, skip it. But if you've played the other games to death, maybe shrug and give it a try.

I liked it, but I'm a huge MK fan and Sub-Zero's one of my favorite characters. It has a few rough spots, the platforming style and controls take a little getting used to.

But I'm also one of those "insane" people who stuck with the MK series after UMK3 all the way through the PS2 titles (which I also enjoyed). So maybe I'm biased? ;)

The game isn't too terrible, but it isn't very good. There's a lot of potential in the concept. It just wasn't executed very well. Part of the problem is that there's multiple enemies on screen at a time and you have to use a button to turn around. This made the entire game feel clunky. The platforming also gave me a hard time. You may find yourself falling a lot until you get used to the game.

I'm a huge MK fan, and Sub-Zero is my favorite character by far. I remember being extremely excited for this title to come out, and I wanted to rent it first.

That's where my memory stops. I don't remember how much I played or what I did, but I remember being pretty disinterested. It wasn't that good, even though I desperately wanted it to be.

Another MK title that I missed but would like to play is Shaolin Monks. I have it on Xbox but it might be on PS2 also? I'm not too big on Liu Kang / Kung Lao, but the game actually looks like a fun beat-em-up.

I had shaolin monks for the PS2 and loved it. I don't recall any glaringly obvious problems with them game play.

Sub-Zero wouldn't even recommend this, and it's his game.

So very true.

It's so strange, I generally dislike fighting games and Mortal Kombat has never really scored any point with me (apart from the newest one, which is...oddly entertaining). BUT.....I rented MK Mythologies when I was a kid and loved the crap out of it. I got a copy of it at a used book store a few years ago and found that I still loved the crap out of it.

Clunky is putting it mildly. Why you would need a button to turn around in a 2D platforming game is rather questionable. That really soured the gameplay for me.

Yeah, that right there kills any desire I had to play this game.

Thanks for the info everyone.

I loved this game. I thought it was great when I would get on the other side of the bad guys and punch the air frantically trying to turn around. I also loved the parts where you had to jump on moving platforms that moved in the third dimension. I never once got angry when I jumped on the platform and it sliced my feet off right before I fell to my death. I loved it so much that even though I made it farther than any of my friends who also "loved" the game, I still just don't feel I am worthy of finishing it.

This. If you want to play an MK game that kinda flew under the radar, Shaolin Monks is it. Good stuff.

I always thought that I was the only person that liked this game. The platforming parts were a bit challenging and to this day I'm still not sure why I had to press a button to fight the guy behind me. But I enjoyed the boss fights, alternate paths(if you let Scorpion live) and multiple endings. The special ending you get for beating the game the hard way was worth it to me. But I haven't played the game in years and while I still like it I admit that it wasn't the best MK game ever make. But I still found it fun back during the PS1 days.

+1 for shaolin monks, not sure how it has stood up but the game was great when it came out, even if you aren't the biggest MK fan, its probably the only game from last gen that gives me that 16bit beat em up feel, as for Mythologies, its pretty terrible but its one of those bad games that you actually don't hate playing through, it should be able to picked up cheap and is worth having a bit of a run through.
