I was going through organizing a box of random gaming stuff and ran across this cable. It didn't fit any systems that I tried it on. Any ideas?

Looks like it might be for either a Saturn or Genesis 2.

Tried both of those. A model 1 genesis at least. It's a similar size but doesn't plug in.

I know I've seen mono AV for Genesis 2 before. I don't think I have with Saturn however.

I'll have to check the Genesis 2 tonight. I didn't think about them being different. Now I'm surprised they didn't change the controller port pinouts too seeing how they changed everything else.

A/V cable MK-1634. Works with the Genesis 2 as well as the 32X.

I often use it in a pinch for hooking up my Genesis 1, but that requires the A/V OUT to mini-DIN converter cable that comes with the 32X.

Oh... I hadn't thought of it that way before. Must be why Sega didn't issue the "better" type of model 1 cable for 32x fans wanted. (eventually made by third parties) An adapter for Genesis 2 cables, would let Genesis 1 owners also use them without 32x.

I forgot to test it. I might actually use it though, since my Genesis2 is connected with RF at the moment. Sucks that it's not stereo though...would it have killed them to add another plug? It wouldn't be too bad on a Genesis 1 since you can get stereo from the front.

There were stereo cables available separately. The mono ones usually came with the 32X or with the Model 3 Genesis. The Model 3 Genesis only outputs in mono so there's no point to using stereo cables with it.

Yeah, I know there are stereo Genesis 2 cables...didn't realize the 3 was only mono. I meant that it sucks for me because I'd rather this cable BE a stereo cable. It looks like the AV port for a Genesis 1 doesn't have stereo on it either. I guess it makes sense to do that when many TV's didn't have stereo inputs, otherwise you'd loose half your audio. I might end up just keeping this to show off the Nomad to TV functionality.

Well, there's always just having dual mono like splitting the NES audio with a Y adapter, but if it doesn't come with one then yea use a mono cable.

Yea it was the late 1980's and TV's were just starting to get two speakers so they opted for the same din connector as the Master System, being that most games were also still in mono at the time. But they thought ahead and added the headphone port in the front for Stereo so you were pretty much set with it.

That cable is also for the Genesis 3. I think a mono cable was standard with a Genesis 3, actually.
