View Full Version : Where is a good place to buy Genesis games?

From what I have seen on Ebay, it's not the best place to get Genny games. Unless you love sports. If you love sports games, then it's a dream come true. You can get tons of sports games for the Genny on Ebay for decent prices, but when it comes to finding the non sports games, it seems very hard to find specific titles, and then if you do, the prices are much higher than they should be for a relatively common Genesis game.

I don't expect to pay Super Nes prices for Genesis games. Genny games are supposed to be relatively dirt cheap, right?

GameStop is actually a decent place to get Genny games, when they happen to have the buy 2 get 1 free deal. The only problem is, that there selection is extremely limited. I've been to all the GameStops in my area, and I've seen all the Genny games they have. They only seem to have the most common ones, and not to many obscure titles.

I have been to thrift stores as well, but there must be another collector in my area snagging all the gems and leaving all the Sports games behind. I do find sports games at thrifts for the Genny, but usually the prices are almost as high as GameStop.

I guess I should hit the Flea Markets. That's about the only thing I haven't tried.

It's just that everybody has said that the Genesis is the cheapest system to collect for in terms of the prices of the games, and the system and the accessories and stuff.

But on Ebay, the decent games seem to go for way too high of prices and GameStop doesn't have a large enough selection.

So that is the situation.

So basically you want the awesome rare games but only want to pay dirt cheap prices.... when you find that magical store give us a heads up man.

You should give ebay another chance. Unless you're complaing about the shipping charges that are tacked on at the end of an auction. I see complete copies of Alladin and LandStalker go for 1.99 sometimes.. just have to look out for the common good stuff amongst the sea of sports carts.. like having a specific title in mind when searching.

I've got about 30 boxed Genesis games still up for grabs:

http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16542

(that link also takes you to another link with more Genny carts so check 'em both out)

These are extras acquired while working on my collection - which is STILL just TWO GAMES SHORT. Come on. I want to be the first person to publicly state I HAVE A COMPLETE GENESIS COLLECTION. HAHAHA! So if anyone turns up a boxed Aero the Acrobat 2 and Scholastic's Magic School Bus, you'd better ring me up quick.

Anyway, prices for the stuff in my boxes there are per the DP Guide prices, which as we all know are the low-end "collector" pirces. Go for it.

No, that isn't what I'm saying. I know that the awesome rare games won't go for dirt cheap prices. I'm not talking about awesome rare games. I'm talking about extremely common good Genesis non sports games.

When I go to Ebay, there are millions upon millions of misc. sports games, and then there are the other games. From my experience, the non-sports games go for way more on Ebay, than they would if they were at a GameStop or GameCrazy, or a place like that. That has just been my experience.

Maybe I was under the false impression that I wouldn't have to pay more than 5 bucks for a used loose Genesis game that happens to be pretty common.

I'm not talking about the games having boxes and instructions, I'm talking about loose carts. Loose carts seem to go for much better prices at GameStop. I would get all my Genny games there, but there selection is extremely limited, and all their stores seem to have the same selection of games.

All the ones that I really wanted, that are at GameStop, I've already bought. The vast majority of Genny games at Gamestop, sell for $3.99. I got Aladdin for $3.99, Gunstar Heroes for $3.99 and Jurrasic Park for $3.99. I got Sword of Vermillion and Sonic 2 from them for $3.99. And actually with most of these games, I bought them on a buy 2 get 1 free deal, so they were actually less.

I think what I really need to do is hit up a major Flea Market in my area. I would hope that their prices would be similar to Gamestop, but that they would have a much larger selection of old Genesis games. Maybe I'm wrong.

Well, I have the largest selection of new factory shrinkwrapped Genesis games (and SNES, CD-i and few others) on the net. We're not the "magical" store previously mentioned, but we are fair and have a great selection (shameless plug ;-)

You jumped into Genesis collecting a little too late. Back when video stores were starting to clear these out, you could find hundreds of games for $5 or less. If you have any rental stores that still stock these, ask somebody who works there if you can buy any. Chances are they'll sell you them even if they aren't techincally for sale.

If you really want cheap games, don't be afraid to buy another Genesis unit. Auctions for the system and a couple games tend to go pretty cheap. So for example, I've bought a Genesis and 12 games before even though I only really needed 2 of the games. Those auctions go cheaply enough where for just a little bit more money, I got a free system and 10 games. It makes for good trade bait I guess.

Seller's Comments: Game in box w/ manual. Game is great shape. Box is cardboard style and is bad shape. I ship first class mail for media mail price so you get it fast. Always check feedback before buying on EBAY or Halfcom!

Dude, keep checking Gamestop. I find rare Genny titles there all the time. Hell, in the past couple weeks I've picked up lots of r4s, r5s, and a few r6s. Add to that the games I've picked up like Phantasy Star II and Streets of Rage 3, there are great Genny games to be had at Gamestop. They just don't last very long so you have to stop in often.
