I used one of those discs for a good while till I bought a Jap machine. I had a PAL Playstation 1 and a PAL PSOne. The disc comes with a spring and a piece of card to fit both machines to enable you to do the disc swap. All the games I tried it with worked fine - I had to use a boot code on some of them, like Guitar Freaks and Ore No Ryouri but as I had one of the cheat cards in the back of my old PS1, I could save these to save hassle later. The disc allows you to enter codes in but obviously they wouldn't get saved.

All in all, it's a cheap method to get access to those lovely imports. :)

If you've got a PSOne, then that's a good way to go. But if you've got a PSX with a parallel port, get a game enhancer cartridge instead, since you can save any unprotect codes, and you can use the CD ROM browser for additional fun.

The PSX can emulate stuff? This is news to me. Tell us more.

I have one of these. Acts like a Gameshark and also lets you view the movie files, hear music, and other neat-o things.

It's like a Game Shark/Action Replay cartridge that's got some customizations to run imports. It does the same thing as PSXChange, but it does it faster, and with more features. The cartridge comes with a spring to hold down the lid switch. They're usually under $20.

I can't find any good places to order one, but search around Google and you should be able to dig something up.

Can you use it on a PS2? Any options exist for THAT system?

As far as I know, chipping is the only option on a PS2. Or maybe one of those flip-lid devices to replace your PS2 case?

I went for the more expensive option - I now have two PS2s (one PAL, one JAP). One sits on top of the other. Maybe I'll get a US machine to complete the set one day...

For PS2, get Swap Magic discs. They're insanely easy to use. You have a couple of choices for swapping discs: use a knife, buy a fliptop lid, or use a no-solder ejector mod.
