Sonic 2 & Sonic Spinball on genesis not working? HELP!

For some odd reason, whenever I go to play sonic 2 and sonic spinball on my genesis, I will get to the title screen, and I can move up and down, but it isn't allowing me to play the game. As in, I keep pressing a, and I can't join. My controller is perfectly fine, because I've played other games and it functions properly, so what could be the problem?:help:

Have you tried pressing "Start" instead of "A"?

A is the wrong button. None of the Sonic games on Genesis start with the A button. I can't believe you didn't know this or at least try pushing all the buttons on your controller before making this post. If START won't work, then your controller is busted. Get a new one or repair the one you have.

That Start button you see on the pad, push it. If it doesn't work, get a new pad seriously.

Fast Fact: The Start Button starts a lot of games, even pauses games. ;)

I would have started mashing all of the buttons on my controller until I got the game going instead of, you know, push ONE button and then create a thread on DP that it didn't work. Just saying.
