I'm a gamer as well as a programmer. Often people have asked me what games I have for a certain system, or I have wanted to share with people all the games that I own (usually when trading). I realized that I have typed the list of games that I owned many times over and over; and thats when I had an idea.

A website that allows you to create a profile, and then list all of the games that you have. It would also provide you a link that you could give out so people can browse what games you own, either by system, alphabetical, etc.

So all in all. A website where you can share your game collection.
Who wants to share crap on Facebook? I want to share my collection and possibly game feedback.

I was just curious, would anyone else be interested in using this?
If so, are there any other features that you would like to see?

Thanks
Walker

Oh, and it would be free, just saying. :P

There are several sites just like you describe already. Rfgeneration is what I use. Others will point out what they use or you can search around here for one of many threads discussing them. Search for collection tracking.

It never hurts to have competition in the marketplace, I find.

Sure, but there is also something to be said for not wasting effort re-creating something that already exists when those efforts and that time could better be spent on something that doesn't yet exist.

True enough! Your post sounded to me that you were unaware of existing options is all.

The only way I'm likely to switch from Rfgeneration is if there is some great new feature, or it has an easy and effective import option (from Rfgeneration).

Thanks for all of the feedback :)
I went through all of the sites that were listed and yes, I was completely unaware that any of them existed :P

I still am interested in doing a site like that though, as I want to have experience doing something like this, as well as something nice for a resume.

Are there any features that would set it apart, or make it better, than the other ones?
Is there anything that you have wanted the that the other sites didn't have?

Thanks again :)

I joined RFgeneration recently, and I've been largely pleased with it. Not only does it have a nice, thorough database including many label/cart variations (I had to keep checking my NES carts when selecting them to add to my collection...round seal or oval seal?), but it has a mobile app too, which allows me to quickly refer to my existing collection when I am searching for carts in the wild.

Like the OP, I didn't realize that sites like this existed until recently, but I'm glad that I found RFG...previously, I've relied strictly on checklists and Excel spreadsheets, which are certainly useful, but can be labor-intensive. As someone who also collects records and CDs, I can get burned out pretty quickly on entering information into spreadsheets, haha.

If there is or will be a game collection site that is at least as reasonably good as Backloggery is, but is instead entirely in Japanese, I would leave Backloggery in a heartbeat. :|

How about if you could add your friends on there, and list games you want and it tell you which friends have them?

I believe backloggery lets you do that already.

I made and actively use VGCollect. Here is my profile:

I use RFGeneration, too (here (http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/collection.pl?name=o.pwuaioc&folder=Collection&action=profile)). The only ever problem I had with them was when their servers were hacked and they weren't yet making regular backups. :/ But otherwise, quality. I also have backloggery, but use it for games I'm currently playing rather than games I will play. I tried getting VGCollect, too, but I can't see myself reduplicating effort.

Does the mobile app let you add games by scanning barcodes? That would be extraordinarily useful.

I'm glad to see some RF Generation love here. Great collection tool, great community.

I didn't see any app for iOS.

I use Backloggery for my collection. I also keep a local spreadsheet. I dabble in RFG, but the interface is fairly klunky. Reminds me of Nintendoage's, only a little better.

I've been a member of RFG for a while, but I never bothered to check the forums. I was browsing through there and found some interesting threads. I am reading page 2 of the forums and went to type a reply to an intriguing topic and discovered that the last reply was in 2009! Does this have to do with the hacking? It looks like all posts from 2010 and 2011 are gone.

Oh, heh, I'd suppose so, but I never go to the forums. I thought you meant the database interface, and not the forums. For a long time, I didn't even know it had them.

Hi friends .
i watch out all your reviews and i am agreed with you there is many web sites of video game collection you can easily search by the Google by typing the name of you want to play and you will get the game web site.

To add a game, first I search for the game, then I have to click a checkbox, then I have to click a dropdown, then I have to click add. If I want to specify if I have the manual, I have to click another checkbox first. Then I have to type in a number in the appropriate boxes, then click another button.

I prefer Backloggery, where I simply have to click add, enter the name of the game once, then click save. When I added my collection there, I didn't even need to move the mouse (type game name, click save, type next game name, click save…)! As a bonus, it allows me to show which games I am currently playing and tracks my games played.

I grew weary just from entering a handful of games to RFG.
