Hey guys. I've been trying to find the solution to a problem I've been having with my N64 and hopefully I can finally get an answer.
I recently had an urge to play Donkey Kong 64 on my old Nintendo. Right now my expansion pack is plugged in, and all of my other games (that I've tested) work fine. But when I put in Donkey Kong, its just a blank screen. No error message or anything. I tried cleaning the cartridge and everything and nothing worked, so I figured my cartridge had gone bad over time and I bought a new cartridge off of eBay. Got it in the mail, same problem. Expansion pack is plugged in, all other games work, but Donkey Kong gives me a blank black screen.
Does anyone have any possible solutions?
Thanks

Try cleaning your expansion pak and the slot it goes into. I was having problems once and that fixed it. I guess after all those years it had to be repositioned inside my system.

Tried. No luck. I just did the old rubbing alcohol on the q-tip trick. Just a plain black screen.

Do have any other games that require the expansion pak?

Yeah, sounds like the expansion pak might have failed. Have you got Majora's Mask or Perfect Dark? Both of those needed it, the former to run, and the latter for multiplayer mode.

You using an official Expansion Pak or a cheap, third-party one?

If the expansion pak had gone bad, the other games shouldn't be working either...

Just wanted to clarify, it's actually only a limited multiplayer on Perfect Dark without the expansion pak. I don't have one and I can't even play Single Player.

Thanks for all the replies. I really appreciate it.
I cleaned out the expansion pack an the connector in the console itself and it still didn't work. I tried other games and they all worked fine, except for Perfect Dark. At first it wouldn't even give me a black screen, but I cleaned it out and then it did, but still wouldn't work. Same as DK. I would try Majora's Mask but my brother has it.
So its pretty clear that the problem is in the expansion pack. If I buy a new one that works, is it a pretty good bet that it would work? Or could the console itself be bad?
And I'm almost positive it's an official expansion pack. My parents bought it for me when I was a little kid, but I can pretty much guarantee that they would have bought the real thing.

Well pull it out and look at it to see if official. Even if it is. They are not hard to find and replace. I keep a back up Power supply and Expansion pack for my N64 just in case.
