After their first release it looks like it will also be 38 Studios last release (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2012-05-24-38-studios-and-big-huge-games-shut-down-report). And the state of Rhode Island will no doubt make changes to their loan approval process. Apparently this game got pretty decent reviews and was selling ok too, just not good enough to cover the money they owed the state and all their employee's salaries. So unfortunately another one bites the dust and surprisingly it isn't THQ.....yet.

Obviously, Curt Schilling's ambitions were much bigger than his bankroll. They had too many employees, for too many years working on that MMO, a MMO which probably wouldn't have kept an audience long enough to make anything worthwhile. Look at Bioware/EA. They spent like 200 million if not more making that Star Wars MMO. Things started off great, but tons of people have left that game. You have to wonder if they will ever break even on that whole deal.

You have to wonder if anybody will try to acquire the scraps of Copernicus ? Maybe some Korean company would be interested in it? I'm guessing all the proceeds would go to Rhode Island, but they might only get a couple of million dollars for whatever was left over.
