I bought a few packs of mint sealed Nintendo cards that come in like yellow packaging for dirt cheap as well..

Does anyone recall these cards or scratch cards I think they're properly titled?

I haven't' opened the pack and probably won't but I was curious as to who remembers buying these things when they came out over two decades ago..

I have a vague recollection of them, but not much more. If I remember right, they had game hints. If it's the right memory, the scratch-offs are not nearly as fun as actually playing the games :P

I recall getting video game bubble gum cards as a kid. You'd buy these game system shaped containers for $2, it would have some gum and a few video game trading cards with game hints on the back. I remember them being frustratingly not standard trading card size.

Topps made Nintendo cards, based on NES games. They also did a Donkey Kong set before that. Topps basically made trading cards for everything you can imagine.

Yeah, I have some of those Nintendo scratch cards. Video game trading cards are actually pretty common, but they mostly stay in Japan. A lot of them are games (like the Pokemon cards), but some sets are purely for looking at.

Now I think about it, I have a few Donkey Kong Country 2 trading cards that came out of a vending machine at a Toys R Us.

I got 21 new/sealed packs of these at one of the local Goodwills about 6 months ago. All for 25 cents. One of them was a bit open and I took a peek. Each pack comes with 3 sctratch offs and 2 stickers.

I think they were supposed to be 25 cents per pak - not sure. But she rang them all up for 25 cents.

Nintendo sold e-reader games for the Game Boy Advance. I think they were just re-releases of old NES titles.

You played them by swiping them like a debit card.

I have a few packs of Zelda cards that I won in one of the 12 days of Christmas Contests here a few years ago. Same as the Mario ones posted above. I haven't opened them. I might open one because cards are cooler than a paper package but I'm not sure the collector in me will let me do it.

Also FLEER. The sides of the pinball machine I had in my basement as a child were plastered with FLEER's Dragon's Lair card/stickers.

NEC famously released its PC Engine and Turbografx-16 games on Hu Cards.

Lesser known are the Sega Master System games that came out in card form. I always why Sega went with the dual format for Master System games.

I have a bunch of these Nintendo ones. I use to include a pack with all my game trades and game sales as a bonus/thank you. I also have a box of the Pacman cards and a box of the Super Pacman cards. I may also have a box of Ms. Pacman cards. They are neat, my son has opened at least two boxes of the Nintendo cards over the years. He has the stickers on everything.

Um.

Those aren't what's being discussed.

The OP is talking about wax-pack bubblegum/baseball/wacky-package type trading cards.

There's always at least one person too lazy to read anything but the topic title. :/

The Topps DK cards I said were from 1982.

according to billy anything with his name stamped on it is all you ever need to have.

with his attitude you'd think he could sell a yugo to donald trump.

For the sake of argument, e-reader cards can be found in all sorts of strange places. Other than just the packs, pack-ins with certain games and promotional materials from magazines, I've also seem them being given away in boxes of cerial and through vending machines. A friend in Japan once told me he found a shop selling Nintendo trading card packs that had a 1 in 5 chance of containing an e-reader game card.

I know they do, and your devil's advocacy is appreciated, but the OP specifically describes THESE:

"Nintendo cards that come in like yellow packaging"

E-Reader cards would be fine as a component of this discussion, but Hu Cards and SMS Mega Cards .... not so much.

There were also lenticular "magic motion" Super Mario and Legend of Zelda cards that came in boxes of Nintendo cereal.

And Atari Lynx games came on cards as well ;)

There were a whole bunch of different series based on cards. I remember and love them, and when I had the chance to pick up a bunch for the GOAT Store a while back, I did:

http://www.goatstore.com/Products/Other/Collectibles/

The thing that is so cool about most of them is they are scratch offs. You either play by yourself or with a friend to scratch off the card and see how high you can score. I remember back in the day this being the absolute coolest, most fun thing that you could do with someone else when you couldn't actually play the games. I wanted to buy them every chance I got.

A lot of the scratch-off parts of the cards don't work any more, but I wish like heck they would re-introduce sets of cards like this again. I think kids today might still get a kick out of them. It's sorta like scratch off lottery tickets, but with no rewards, I guess.

This just caused a flood of memories to come back to my mind. I completely forgot about those.
