So I've been watching the old first season of gi Joe on Netflix. It got me wondering about the gi Joe games.

The YouTube videos look pretty good but was fishing for opinions here before I spend the cash.

Both of them are worth checking out. In my opinion, the first one is the best of the two. On an interesting note, the first game was published by Taxan, while the second one (The Atlantis Factor) was published by Capcom.

That was a big surprise to me as well. I had played the first one back in the day, but I only learned of The Atlantis Factor about 10 years ago.

Since you mention that you like the classic cartoons, unfortunately (IMO) both games coincide with the DiC era toons/characters.

Not terribly significant in the scope of what little story the NES games offer, just thought that was worth noting.

I had rented the Taxan one way back in the day, and loved it enough to buy it before I ever started collecting. I still have it, with box, possibly with the manual (I don't remember). One of my favourite games for the NES. I know just about everything there is to know about this game, so if you have any specific questions, feel free to ask.

I've played The Atlantis Factor on emulator, but didn't get nearly as much enjoyment.

I've only played The Atlantis Factor game for awhile and while it was pretty fun I didn't get that far in it to form a very solid opinion about it.

Which is why I wasn't enamored with either game. Konami also released that shooting arcade game in 1992 as well. Looked like Space Harrier.

That's kinda a bummer. I was hoping to face some of the original enemy's.

Yeah, Cobra Commander is the armoured one, Destro has the gold helmet. You get guys like the Overlord, Golobulus, Metal-Head. On the plus side, you get to use Duke, Snake-Eyes, and Rock and Roll as some of your usable originals.
