As of right now PS2 makes up the vast bulk of my collection. There's quite a lot of shite in it but also a few gems, and as such I've almost filled two medium-sized bookcases with games.

Almost.

I've got enough space left for just one more game and I'm open to suggestions over which one it should be. It needs to have been released in a PAL territory (recently got rid of my NTSC PS2) and not be prohibitively expensive- not that many PS2 games are nowadays. Here's what I got so far:

I would say King's Field IV, but the Metro3D translation is story breaking. Also, the gameplay isn't for everyone.

How about Shadow of Memories?

You've already got some of the Shin Megami Tensei games, but I didn't see Nocturne on the list. It's one of my favorite PS2 games.

Well, if you're a huge Suda 51 fan, there's Michigan: Report from Hell. A strange little niche horror you play as a cameraman filming paranormal events in the city of Chicago (strange I know) all from my view of the video camera itself and released in Europe only outside of the Japan. So, that should fits your PAL condition pretty snuggly.

I agree with this. Nocturne is one of the best PS2 RPGs. Here's a list of other games I'd recommend.

Armored Core 3. Being a Mechwarrior fan when I was actually into PC games, the Armored Core series was an instant favorite to me. The series is just amazing and a bit difficult. Armored Core 3, to me, is the best game on the PS2. It's difficult, like all AC games, but not too difficult, infact AC2 and AC3 are the two easiest titles in the series.

Forever Kingdom. I see you have Evergrace, but you don't have Forever Kingdom/Evergrace 2. You control three party members at a time a time and it plays like Evergrace except that instead of the Palmira actions with each piece of armor, you now have different actions depending on what Palmira accessory that you have equipped. You have competent AI characters and then O, ^, and X is your Palmira actions per character, so you can have each character hit the enemy with a Palmira action which will resullt in a combo, giving them all an additional action and if the enemy is killed it'll be an overkill giving you certain items used to upgrade your characters, etc.

So there's my three for you to choose from from the ones you don't have.

I see you got Shadow Hearts Covenant, what about Shadow Hearts 1 and Shadow Hearts: From the New World. Oh, don't forget Shadow of Memories (Shadow of Density in US).

I'm going to second Kupo's suggestion of an Armored Core title if your into mech combat with extremely heavy customization options. If your only getting one though I would suggest Armored Core: Last Raven. Its got a fun branching campaign with separate endings but more importantly it has standard dual analog controls as a default and I newcomers to the series have a hard time adjusting to the classic control schemes carried over from the PS1 era. Its a great title with again truly massive customization options.

Another good series is the Tokyo Extreme Racer games with the TXR3 definitely the best. Its an arcade-ie highway racing game with the most indepth vehicle customization I've ever seen in the game. It has the standards of adjusting springs rates, camber, etc. but you also unlock the ability to do full engine swaps and massive weight modifications to your car. The driving controls will be a turn off at first but the addictive nature of the games races will keep you coming back with hours and hours of races to run. Overall a really fun and now cheap game that's often overlooked because of its review scores. There is a parallel series called Tokyo Extreme Drift which is basically the same idea but with Drifting instead of Highway racing and its a fun game too.

I also suggest checking out any of the PS2 Ace Combat games with 5 and Zero being very neck and neck quality wise although 4 was good too. They are all basic flight combat games that focus more on fun then realism with absurd missile counts but realistic aircraft. They all have very different but good story telling methods that keep you interested in the overall plot of the game and usually very good music too. I think that AC 5 has a better campaign (mission wise) and aircraft selection if your a plane buff but AC Zero has better music and split-screen mode. Overall all three of them are great game and I still play them on occasion.

Special mentions:

Way of the Samaurai Series
Z.O.E. 2 (Might as well get the HD collection)

Isn't Xenosaga Episode 2 going to get lonely?

Would Space Channel 5 Part 1 & 2 be unreasonable?
