You want to put an original Gameboy screen into a Gameboy Color?

I think he just wants to replace a broken LCD.

It's not that hard. If you open it up, then it's pretty straightforward. There are ribbon cables that attach the screens to the boards, just pop them off and install the new screen.

That would be pretty simple to do, but that's more of a repair than a mod so I'm not sure why he said mod in the title.

I'm thinking he meant something more in line to the Nomad mod where you replace the old screen with a more modern one, but his posts are pretty vague so I can't be sure what he meant.

Yeah, that's what I thought too (like sticking an SP front light into a GBP or GBC). But it seems more like he just wants to fix a GB?

What is a compatible LCD screen. Because saw a mod about a Sega nomad LCD screen mod that why I am asking ?

Well, what exactly are you trying to achieve? I mean, putting a color TFT display on an old B&W GB would be largely useless.

The Sega Nomad uses a standard video signal and can therefore use any screen accepting that signal. They even make it easy on you and have an AV port on it that you can tap into. A Game Boy however uses a non-standard video signal and it would be quite a task to mod it to work with some other off the shelf screen...and get it to all fit.

Maybe you could change an originals screen out with a Game Boy Pocket or Game Boy Light screen. I don't really know how compatible they are but it would B&W and I think less blurry if I'm not mistaken. But then again, there's no real need for this mod since those 2 devices already exist.

Yes, a Gameboy Color LCD is compatible with a Gameboy Color. It even says it was taken out of a broken Gameboy Color.

So is this just a repair or a mod?

A better LCD in the first Gameboy could be difficult work for not much benefit. Nintendo improved how Gameboy games look through 15 years of updated models.

What more could an LCD replacement do, that the backlit GBA SP doesn't already achieve?

I found a sweet upgrade for the original GameBoy was a GameBoy Color.

Fixing a broken screen? Not at all pointless. Modding the screen to a better one? Probably pointless.

The reasons most people do mods is to get something that does not exist or not available/too expensive, to solve some problem, or for aesthetic reasons. For the gameboy, most every one of those things has been taken care of by Nintendo with the later versions of the gameboy.

The Nomad screen mod example is to solve a problem...replace a blurry battery hogging screen with a modern sharp more energy efficient one. The Nomad however already outputs a TV signal. Adding a new LCD which accepts a TV signal is fairly simple. No model of gameboy uses a TV video signal. It uses specific digital signals controlled by precise timing to turn the pixels on and off. Sure, you could interface those signals to output to a TV but then it would an electrical engineering project, not so much a "mod".
