What I'm wondering about, in terms of the Wondermega, is the S-Video output. From what I understand, the Genesis isn't really capable of TRUE S-Video output, so I'm wondering if the S-Video output on the Wondermega is really TRUE S-Video, or if it just has an internal video converter chip or something that converts the composite video to S-Video?

Or is it really a TRUE S-Video output?

Was JVC able to somehow add TRUE S-Video to their Wondermega?

If so, then this would be the only way to get S-Video output from Genesis and Sega CD games.

Yes, WonderMega has S-Video.

I don't think you understand my original question. I know that the Wondermega does have a physical S-Video output on it. I'm aware of that. The question that I'm asking, is does the Wondermega really output a "REAL" S-Video signal for the cartridge and CD games. What I mean by real, is did JVC or Sega somehow alter the original inards of the Genesis/Sega CD to allow for TRUE S-Video output.

OR....

Is it a case of just an internal switching of the composite video signal to S-Video.

There is a difference between the two. I can go to Radio Shack right now, and get a little box that will take a composite video signal and convert it to S-Video. That is very easy. However, that doesn't mean that the video signal would actually be improved in any way. The actual video quality would remain the same, or even would be diminished slightly through the conversion process.

You see, the original Genesis never had S-Video capabilites. Not even through any kind of internal modifying could you get S-Video from the original Genesis. So I'm thinking that what the Wondermega does, is just have a device like the little Radio Shack box inside it, that converts the composite signal to S-Video. If that is the case, then it really isn't S-Video at all. I mean, it isn't really TRUE S-Video.

Sure you could plug into the S-Video port on the back of you TV, and you can connect it that way, but the video signal wouldn't actually get the improvement that is normally associated with S-Video.

I have a WonderMega, but the video cables I have are just the plain old RCA jobs. :(
