Sohei Niikawa, already president of Nippon Ichi Software in Japan, is replacing Haru Akenaga as president of NIS America.

Under Niikawa, NIS America is pursuing a philosophy of "Entertainment for All," which will embrace more media like "comic books, anime, music, movies, novels, and mobile games." Something tells us NISA's idea of "all" is still a charmingly limited niche.http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif (http://www.joystiq.com)Sohei Niikawa takes over as NIS America president (http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/23/sohei-niikawa-takes-over-as-nis-america-president/) originally appeared on Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com) on Sat, 23 Jun 2012 05:15:00 EST. Hmm, seems like they already barely release games these days as it is. I still get their newsletter, and it feels like all it ever has is anime and a million-and-one uses of "dood". Seriously, they've run the Prinny thing so hard into the ground that it hurts.

Interesting, I like a lot of the niche stuff NISA brings out over here and normally buy their products on release to avoid future headaches trying to find them. I wonder if this means the era of special editions with an actual limit on the number of units produced is at an end?

The only good thing to really come out of NIS is publishing the Badman series, but also Prinny and Prinny 2. The Prinny games are some of the absolute best platformers I've ever played, and next to Dracula X Chronicles, are my favorite platformers this generation. The games are difficult, but they're Castlevania difficult, where they aren't bullshit shmup difficult or memorization difficult, but skill based to where you could very well get past any stage without getting hit in a single life, even your first time playing.

Unfortunately, they're caught up in the weaboo market to where they keep pushing out shitty RPGs and publishing garbage from Gust and Idea Factory, because that's what makes them money. It'd be nice if they could branch out into other genres like platformers and make those their main source of games because they do such a great job at it. Another unfortunate part is those types of games won't sell as well to their fanbase, who are interested in any JRPG regardless of quality.
