I just was wondering how people think the Atari Jaguar's version of Raiden stacks up agains the likes of SNES Genesis and even the PSOnes Raiden games? I have finally won a copy of it off of ebay for a decent price and can't wait until it gets here. How does it stack up???

It's better than any 16-Bit version. Second to the near perfect PSX version due to the Euroborder. One of the best Jaguar games easily. Enjoy it when it comes!

I didn't really like the music in the Jaguar version. Stick to the PSX version.

Exellent version on Lynx too (Telegames)

I've heard it can't be finished (Not good enough myself to attest to that one way or another).

And having to hold the Lynx vertically isn't exactly the most comfortable thing in the world.

Exellent version on Lynx too (Telegames)

I have been looking for this game for a few years. I have a near complete Lynx collection(about 5 games away) and this one is on top of my list. I never knew you had to hold the lynx sideways. Now I want to play it even more.

Anyone looking to trade/sell the Lynx version, please drop me a PM!

I own the Jaguar and Playstation versions and have played the Genesis, SNES, Lynx, and Turbo Grafx-16 versions too. The Jaguar version is solid, but the PS version looks a bit closer graphically to the arcade. Plus, the PS controller doesn't cramp my thumbs in the way the stock Jaguar controller does. The Jaguar Pro controller is recommended in general if you don't have one.

As for the other versions, I actually prefer the TG-16 over the others. The 16-bit console versions pretty much play the same, but the port seems to have been handled better on TG-16. I would avoid the Lynx version like the plague. It stinks, but Lynx kinda stinks in general.

I would agree with this analysis. I have all of those versions plus the arcade board and I think the PSX is much closer to the arcade visually than the Jaguar version. The Jaguar version is good, but there's just something about the way the ships are animated and the firing animations are built that makes them seem soft, almost blurry on the Jaguar, even when played on a nice monitor. The TG-16 doesn't quite have the arcade graphics, but the speed and gameplay is pretty dead on with the arcade version. The Lynx version is probably the worst I have played. Aside from the weird play mechanics, the screen is just too small to work well with a SHMUP of this type and the speed of the game feels completely off from not only the arcade, but the console version.

Jaguar Raiden is nice. Compared to the stuff coming out now and the Playstation Raiden Project, it's still cool. However, when it released it was awesome. Still a version worth getting.
