I just find it hilarious they included a picture of a random guy in some sort of space suit. When you clearly don't play as that guy. You play as a mobile suit in the game..... maybe he pilots it?

also post other hilarously bad or misleading game art.

He was on the planet. The planet blew up, you see the robots fly in then you see the robots fly in. I swear he was there, he just got blown up in the intro.

Oh the notoriously bad Mega Man 1 box artwork, he looks like a monkey in some sort of spandex suit with a hand gun.

Looks more like an old man dressed up as Mega Man for Halloween. They go from making him look 40 years old to looking more like a kid...

THAT is misleading. Terrible Charlie's Angles rip off to sum up a Japanese shooter game.

We need more "Hillybillies playing unusual music instruments" covers. I always have said that.....

I' ve heard some stories about the Phalanx box art. Apparently, they wanted a box that wasn't just a spaceship shooting like every other shooter. Also the guy on the cover didn't know what was going on during the shoot. He was in a daze.

Since when is the banjo an unusual instrument?

It's uncommon to say the least. I wouldn't say it's the usual instrument you normally run across. You may live in the hills where they filmed "Deliverance", but I sure don't. ;)

I think I once saw the box art for the European ColecoVision version of Mr.Do,where instead of the clown we`re all familiar with,it`s a Bruce Lee look-alike.

Haha, I'll usually stumble upon that awesome compilation of doctored 2600 box art every year or so and have a good chuckle each time. Like a Far Side Gallery, it's fresh and entertaining each rereading if you give it a bit of time.

The Side Arms box art stands out to me because it has a lot more detail than the super smooth airbrush style as a lot of TG16 covers. Of course, it's still wildly generic and could apply to any number of games, not the least of which being some Captain Power platforming abomination or something, but it's certainly no worse than, say, Double Dungeons...

It does seem to be a rather consistent art style, doesn't it? At least it is indeed superior to the Master System art style.

I've always wondered if that was drawn by Sergio Aragonés.

Legendary Axe 2's art is indeed misleading. It uses the character from the first game that doesn't even appear in 2. I have Legendary Axe 2 but mine is card only. I didn't even notice this till the full size art was posted.

The Japanese version is even called Legendary Axe 2 so it wasn't a US only thing, but I can see how the developer might have just used the Legendary Axe name to sell it.

Trivia time:

LA1 was called Makyou Densetsu (Legend of the Bounds of Evil) in Japan, programmed by Aicom.
LA2 was called Ankoku Densetsu (Legend of Darkness) in Japan, programmed by Atlus.

The Japanese publisher for both was Victor, so they probably called the naming shots.

That would explain why I've gotten that confused all these years, the Japanese names are very similar.
