This has been widely reported around the Internet: http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/05/nights-into-dreams-gets-a-sweet-sixteen-present-an-hd-re-releas/

I'm stoked 'cause my Saturns won't read my NiGHTS discs and now I don't have to buy the PS2 version I keep putting off. This has to be one of my favorite titles of the '90s and may have been the first to actually make me tear up back in the day.

Anyone else excited?

I hope it includes at least some of the Christmas Nights stuff, like the PS2 version does.
What I'd really like to see are time attack and score attack modes that do away with the on-foot stuff entirely.

Oh heck yes! I'm glad, more people need to play this game. It still holds up very nicely, a fresh coat of hd paint and it's good to go for me.

definately a great move on Sega's part. Maybe thier market analysts are starting to notice there is still some demand for older Saturn titles, which many people passed on in the 90s.

Hey, I've got two questions regarding the game:

1) Does it save the game after every level, or does it only save after you've beaten the boss of that particular world?

2) If you die during a boss level, do you have to repeat the entire world from the beginning again?

Those were the two things that made me quit playing Nights JoD.

The screenshots don't look that good, IMO. It just looks like the Saturn game but really smoothed out. Kind of plastic-y and cheap.

I'll buy it anyway, I'm a whore for this game. Hopefully there will be a disc version in Europe or something.

Would love to get an updated version in HD of the Saturn classic! Not the horrible Wii game!

Not much of a surprise it's coming with the work they've already put into porting it to the PS2 a few years ago. I would assume that we will see the original Panzer Dragoon, Sega Rally (The coinop, not the Saturn port), and Virtua Fighter 2 come out to download services in the coming years as well.

They're all games that Sega has ported the original source code to a more modern platform in recent years that would make for popular downloadable releases. And in VF2's case, apparantly it has been rebuilt from scratch due to the original source code being unavailable. That's certainly not cheap to do and it's an investment I'm sure they're going to want to take advantage of one of these days beyond as a budget PS2 release in Japan.

I have no idea what's going on in the stuffy boardrooms at SEGA, but they need to start releasing more updates, such as this one, based on their classic IPs. How about Streets of Rage on the 3DS? You can't tell me that wouldn't sell.

As a Sega-Sammy stockholder I think you would make better decisions than most management at this point.

Sega seems to do a decent job of utilizing their back catalog.

If they need to do anything, it's a Midway Arcade Treasures style lineup of releases with a similar scale and scope of coverage.

And I wouldn't argue with them giving Sega Rally 2006 a PS3 release through Sony's digital PS2 program. Solid game that deserves a translation (Arcade mode is in English, but championship mode has lots of Japanese text) and a North American release.

First some of the Dreamcast games, then Shenmue 1 and 2, and now NiGHTS! What next?

When did they announce Shenmue 1 and 2? I thought that was still just in the rumor mill.

Edit - Yep, just a rumor. A rumor that seems to be losing steam considering it has been months now since it first surfaced and at that time it was claimed these ports had been finished for over a year at that point.

Doesn't seem like Sega would spend all that money and then just sit on them for two years.

as a fan of the game and sega this will someday be purchased. Despite much overtime these days money for games is limited :(
