The thread title is so ridiculous, surely it's a joke. Is it? Have a look.

I'm speechless. I'll wait to see what you guys have to say about this. It's in France.

It's Adol's collection.

He's done this with individual sets a few times before, but never all of them at once.

Oh, I had no idea. I've just never seen so much retro Japanese gaming material in one place before. I wonder if the stores in Japan even have as much inventory as that auction displays. XD

I have to disagree, there isn't all of them at all in this auction.

Wow, I guess it didn't take long for this behemoth of an auction to get popular.

Geek.com published an article about it. (http://www.geek.com/articles/games/1-2-million-ultimate-games-collection-appears-on-ebay-2012077/)

...Which of course I found out about through Slashdot. (http://idle.slashdot.org/story/12/07/09/1618205/12-million-ultimate-games-collection)

And the listing is closed/sold. Someone out there must be really wicked rich to be able to scoop this up, damn. @_@

I found it interesting someone on Slashdot wrote $1.2m / 6900 (estimate) = $173/game. Then again we don't know how much it actually sold for. :)

He should have made it so the buyer had to pay to end the auction. Of course, that wouldn't work if he accepted a best offer though. But that would only matter if this auction was really legit.

The auction was legit and has always been. What are you trying to say?

Besides, i don't think you're anEbay newbie, are you?
You should know you CANNOT ask for immediate payment if the item exceeds $10k (andin my case, on Ebay.fr, it is only 2000€), so there is NO WAY to do what you say.
I can't believe you don't know that ?!
I'd love to secure this listing if i have to relist it, but there is simply NO way.

Everyone on the internet(including this site) seems to think the auction was some kind of fake publicity stunt. Are you trying to tell me you haven't been reading up about what people have been saying about your own auction?

You should know you CANNOT ask for immediate payment if the item exceeds $10k (andin my case, on Ebay.fr, it is only 2000€), so there is NO WAY to do what you say.

I've never had an auction for ten thousand or more so obviously I didn't know that. My auctions have always been from $1-$1000 and the option was always there so I figured it would be there regardless of what you sold. But if thats true you should use their restriction policy so that only certain people can bid. I know that whenever they do those celebrity charity auctions they have screening processes where people are not even allowed to bid until they contact the company overseeing the auctions. You might want to look into doing something similiar the next time you sell items that you can't use immediate payment for.

Apparently the buyer is from canada. Why would an NTSCer spend 1mil on mostly PAL games? Has to be fake.

I've been reading, but fortunately 99% of commentators have not twisted mind like yours.
Besides, if i want such publicity, since i've my collection for years now,why i'd have not do it earlier?

I've never had an auction for ten thousand or more so obviously I didn't know that.

That's not a reason to not be interested in Ebay rules and affirm such wrong things.

I did it either, and i'm shcoked you don't know either that you cannot restrict more than "-1" feedbackers, and which have been verified by phone. That's it.I can't stop 1 feedbackers to click on it.
But you should have informed yourself before saying such things. That'd have been the normal way.

So 99% of the internet thinks the same thing I do and yet their minds aren't twisted but mine is? That makes no sense. Just looking at the comments in this thread alone you can see that half the people have called it fake.

That's not a reason to not be interested in Ebay rules and affirm such wrong things.

It doesn't concern me at all so I could care less. I use it for my auctions and it works fine.

No, they think the opposite of you, precisely. There was no fake publicity stunt here. I have no connection to the winner.
Besides, half of this thread doesn't make even 1% of the comments on the web about it (literally hundreds of thousands), so it's irrelevant.
And you avoid questions as well, so i'll ask again:
" if i want such publicity, since i've my collection for years now,why i'd have not do it earlier?"

No, i'm shocked you could be so rude.
You clearly don't know a thing about Ebay (and even less about Ebay France), and yet you dare affirm :
"He should have made it so the buyer had to pay to end the auction"
Right, my price was "only" 500 times higher than the authorized limit for immediate payment. Only 500.

If you really do not realize you talked without knowing and just need to apologize about it, you need to get an education.
You just act like a spoiled brat.

Actually, I think many of us are very familiar with you and given your past behavior, assumed it was all a giant publicity stunt. The only people who approached your "auction" without skepticism were the "press" who loved the idea of a bunch of video games selling for over a million dollars so much that they didn't bother to do any research into you or your auction.

If you're serious about the sale, you can approach Ebay and they will do the same thing an auction house like Christie's or Bonham's will do and set up a screening process for potential bidders. Obviously, you didn't really believe this would sell, so you didn't bother to think about the logistics of running an auction of this type. While they may charge a higher fee for this service, at least you will likely get paid if it does sell which is a very big if.

You are not someone who contributes to this forum or any other in a positive way from what I can tell and the fact that you are popping up in all of the threads about this auction on the six or so forums I am active on is strong proof that you are nothing more than a publicity seeker. You have no right to attack anyone here when you are the one who has engaged in shady behavior and am I right to conclude that you have made no effort to contact the press and tell them the sale was never completed and it was a scam bidder?

No, they think the opposite of you, precisely. There was no fake publicity stunt here. I have no connection to the winner.

I am mostly curious about the reasoning for the price. Just doing a quick cut and paste of all of the games listed in the auction, and not bothering to edit out the spaces or headers for each section, there are something over 7300 games there. I haven't read the entire auction, but I see there is a lot of mint condition and factory sealed games there. But that still adds up to over $130 per game when all is said and done.

This is not ridicule at all, I am seriously interested if this sale goes through. It will mean that there are extremely wealthy people out there that will pay a premium for the luxury of buying a complete collection in one swipe. Online gaming auctions may have their own TV show soon if this is the case.

Either you're really stupid or you lack basic common sense. The majority of people who have heard about your auction do not have an opinion that is the opposite of mine. They share the same opinion. Rather you were trying to make a fake publicity stunt or not, that is still what the majority of people think this was. As for your question, I have no idea what you've done earlier with your collection. Like everyone else I have only heard of this auction because of the asking price and because it's hit mainstream media sites.

"as long as it doesn't concern me, i don't need to read/know the rules, and i could say blatant lies as much as i want about others"
Wow. Talk about selfishness.

Blatant lies? Selfishness? You are really reaching aren't you. I didn't know you couldn't use immediate payments with auctions over $10,000. Coincidentally, I have no interest in pottery laws so I could care less about those either because it doesn't concern me. But that doesn't make me selfish. One day you will learn the difference....doubtful but maybe.

You're telling wrong.
I haven't been active those last 2-3 years, but i'm here for a long time, and i was glad to help and or provide info anytime it was asked.
And i've been contributing a lot on other forums (french ones mostly), helping with thousands of scans and infos.

I have those collections for YEARS! This makes non-sense.

You have no right to attack anyone here when you are the one who has engaged in shady behavior

Can you be more specific,please?
Besides, I only "attacked" the attacker. That was more like offensive defense.

and am I right to conclude that you have made no effort to contact the press and tell them the sale was never completed and it was a scam bidder?

No you're not.
Every interview i gave to the dozens people who emailed me, i clearly indicates the buyer hasn't paid.
Make your research and you'll see that part is always included.

There is no "reasoning" of such price. It is the exact same thing as when mundocombo put his Tetris for $1 million. Is it worth $1 million? No, but he accepts offers. I did the same.
Some games are worth more than $10k alone, some others are worth $2...there is no point making an average price.
That's why i accepted offers for separate fullsets.

Yawn, Sylvie wants attention. Here, guy.

That'd only be relevant if that was me. But sorry, that's not me.

Either you're really stupid or you lack basic common sense. The majority of people who have heard about your auction do not have an opinion that is the opposite of mine. They share the same opinion. I could the same about you: Either you're really stupid, or you're really, really stupid.
Most of the hundreds of thousands of commentators think the sale was done, conghratulated me for it, and have no doubt about my integrity.
The fact i mentionned in any interview i gave that iwasn't being paid yet enforced that. I had no interest telling this, if this wasn't the blatant truth.
But i'm an honest man,and i gave the facts: someone clicked on it (i have his name, address, and phone number), i had nothing to do with him before that "buy it now-type" auction. There is NOTHING fake in that.

Blatant lies? Selfishness? You are really reaching aren't you. I didn't know you couldn't use immediate payments with auctions over $10,000.

Then LEARN about it before making stupid comments.

But atleast this time you responded back to some of the other 99% as opposed to ignoring them like before and acting like they were a part of the 1%.

No, making false accusations is being rude.

Well you can't tell the difference between 1% and 99% so theres really nothing we can do for you. We tried to help but you are a lost cause.

I don't live in USA, but i know Ebay USA rules better than you. That's irrelevant.

Apparently you don't know the rules or you wouldn't be begging me to tell you about the services available for screening processes on ebay for high end auctions. So no, you don't know anything better than me besides for making fake auctions.

You're trying to reverse roles here, but that doesn't work. YOU are the one who started affirming false things about others (here, me) such as i could ak immediate payment for it. YOU started it. Not me. You just have to grow up and admit that.

If I reversed roles that would make me an idiot like you an there is zero chance of that happening. And suggesting you use immediate payment isn't "affirming false things" because you can use that option. It's not like you aren't allowed but for higher amounts where you can't use it there are still other options to get the job done in another way. But you would know all of this if you even had a clue about what you were talking about. Which leads me to.....

When you'll be able to speak (or at least, understand) 5 different languages, and express yourself over 20 sentences in another language forum hosted in another country, maybe you'll be able to give me lectures about vocabulary.

LOL, lot of hate going on. ;-) I don't think your goal is to understand each other and reach a truth. Push reset and try to. Unless that is your fun. ;-)

He might do it to show-off his collection... so what?

He still might be ready to sell it at the right price. I am sure he can answer and I think that is what he said.

My collection is not for sale, but I guess I would at least listen if someone was willing to offer crazy money. But I don't usually sell much of my stuff, I do not collect with that goal in mind. Not that much people know what I really have, but even then sometime I get contacted for some random items some collectors know I own.

Now, is he wanting to sell?

I guess Adol can answer all those one aside from personal issues. ;-) So Adol, is your intention was to show off your collection? Do you want to keep your intention like a secret warp zone? :D Do you badly want to sell or are you more willing to sale only if you get a good price or not that interested to sell, but listening just in case?

Aside from money involved, at the base, we do it as an hobby... and to have some fun I guess. Well everything in life should probably be that way.

Anyway that is not Adol's full collection as he used (at least back then) to acquire a lot of NTSC NES games (including lot of new/sealed) too AFAIK and that auction does not mention that. Do you still own a lot of those Adol?

These popular, high $ auctions too, there is always some people fake bidding/winning them. Of course it is more spectacular if it get sold at high prices. ;-)

I wished to start and complete FDS and Virtual Boy collection at some point too (well most of Nintendo consoles with cartridge to be honest). Price of some rare titles have probably gone up too much for me that saw them at lower price back then. ;-) I can see someone offering money for an almost full collection anyway, it happen sometime, but it still is a lot of money.

Maybe Adol just want to start over... the fun of collecting took over the original subject of his collection, ha ha ha. ;-)
