Howdy all,

Been a lurker for some time. Finally registered as I have just purchased an Atari Lynx v2.

So what are we looking at? Would you mind naming a few games that are worthy of ones time. No RPG's though. Cannot stand the things! :)

Thanks,

Rich

S.T.U.N. Runner, a great port of the futuristic arcade racer.
Blue Lightning, which is sort of like Afterburner.
Todd's Adventures in Slime World, a side-scroller with some cool graphical effects. The title is pretty self-explanatory..
Chip's Challenge, if you like puzzle games.

Man, there aren't many stinkers on the LYNX ... some favorites off the top of my head:

Electro-Cop
Chip's Challenge
Rampart
Blue Lightning
Ninja Gaiden (arcade)
S.T.U.N. Runner
Battle Wheels
Xybots
Xenophobe
Hydra
Road Blasters
Block Out
KLAX
Rygar
Warbirds

My top picks would probably be:

Chip's Challenge
Shanghai
Ninja Gaiden
Crystal Mines II
Rygar
Tournament Cyberball
Toki
Klax

and my all-time favorite pinball game: Pinball Jam.

Stay away from Batman Returns. The game is just way too hard.

Besides what has already been mentioned, I'd recommend Zaku (http://www.zaku-lynx.com/index.html), a homebrew shmup that was released a few years ago.

I always quite enjoyed Zarlor Mercenary, Ninja Gaiden and of course Rampage.

The LYNX really did not have any business being in third place back in the day.

Also California Games. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned it yet. I really enjoy surfing and BMX and the other two are pretty fun themselves.

All previous recommendations are hard to argue against, here's a handful more that I don't believe have been mentioned:

Dracula: The Undead is a nicely atmospheric adventure game. It makes tasteful use of scaling, something of a rarity when most sprites are jumping into your face if they're doing anything of a resizing sort.
Ninja Gaiden III has always struck me as a most unlikely port. It turned out quite solidly, however, and it's a shame that more platformers didn't find their way to the Lynx. Sprites are downright tiny, but it impresses me that the game is recognizably Ninja Gaiden III despite how pixelated everything is.
Paperboy is a great port on the Lynx and tons of fun for fans of the original. There are an impressive number of Atari arcade ports on this handheld, Paperboy may be my favourite of the bunch.
Robo-Squash plays like 3D Pong with a layer of obstacles/zany crap occupying a pane in the center of the playfield. I'm quite partial to the game.
