I recently acquired a red GBC from one of my friends, but it doesn't work at all. I've tried on the Game Boy Pocket, Advance, and Advance SP. I put it in, turn it on, and the start-up screens play as normal, but after that, nothing. The screen goes blank. Any advice?

Quick edit; I've tested the Game Boy Pocket with a game cartridge and it worked fine, so I know it's not a problem with the Game Boy itself.

Have you cleaned it like you would any other cart?
It could also be broken.

It could also be broken.

Considering this is a sub-forum for console modding/repair, you are being supremely helpful with this comment.

What you could do is to open it up. Clean the inside board with alcohol and a tooth brush. Check the board for broken traces, with the eyes or a multimeter if possible. Check if the chips look busted.
Dirt can also enter the camera from the lens.

If everything looks clean and fine, probably something has been busted inside and can't be fixed, or may take a long time to fix i.e. a broken circuit board.
