Literally.

According to this site, a division of the military released a game called "Polybius" which warps the minds of anyone who plays it. Children who played the game suffered from terrifying nightmares and even amnesia, which makes the mild discomfort you get from playing an Acclaim game seem like small potatoes in comparison.
Special thanks to Insert Credit for this story.

I saw this on Insert Credit earlier in the week, and I immediately went looking for more information on Polybius (which was the name of a Greek historian; I'm not sure about the monster). Coinop.org seems to have the only entry about the game, so I'm suspicious. If this title truly gave players mental problems, you'd think that it would be mentioned more often.
Still, I'd love to see this ROM.

Dude. It's aliens. I swear! The reason the kids don't remember anything is that they had their memory wiped after the anal probe! That would mean, like, gay aliens.... Right?

Ask yourself, if this game made kids become 'anti videogame crusaders' would you want to risk playing it yourself?
apart from that, its a spooky story...

It's not entirely impossible, not that I necessarily believe this particular story. All kinds of subconscious programming could be going on in a computer display screen through flashing light patterns and so on.

One question. Why do all government agents supposedly wear black? This story has the evil government agents from Russia who wore "black jackets" to collect data. I mean, come on. What does it matter what color jackets they were wearing? If the "government agents" were trying to be sneaky, WHY would they all wear black jackets? It would just call to attention that they were all together, in the same plot. They might as well have been wearing bright orange, sequin covered jackets that said "GOVERNMENT AGENT FROM EVIL RUSSIA---UP TO NO GOOD."
Don't even get me started on how every twisted plot has to be the spawn of an evil Russian government agent either.
This story is total hogwash.

This story is total hogwash.
Absolutely. I work in psychology, and fancy fringe psych. as a "specialty" (hobby). The effects described would be revolutionary in the field. Utter bullshit.

As I understood it, this was nothing more than an urban legend. It's kinda funny -- reminds me of the "backward masking" witchhunt in the '80s.

I believe it was actually developed by aliens working for "Gulliblecorp", a division of "PhonyCo". And there was this hook on the car door, too.
