I took a chance on this one after seeing the Yahtzee/Zero Punctuation Review (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/6021-Spec-Ops-The-Line) and wow..this one is different.
Has anyone else played this yet?
I really don't want to give anything away but I've never played a game that examines the the horror and cost of war on your adversaries, civilians, and the protagonist's squad. Its a damn shame the marketing and title of the game make it look like a typical bro shooter because it really is something different, at least in regards to the campaign.

I hadn't paid much attention to this game, but I just watched the Zero Punctuation review, and it sounds interesting. I might have to pick this up someday. I played the demo on the 360 when it came out, but there wasn't much indication it was going to be the type of game that Yahtzee and you are describing.

I've heard this game mentioned a few times on The Indoor Kids, and it sounds awesome. I may pick this one up for more than $30, which is rare for me.

Same. I don't even think I finished the PS3 demo. Seemed like a generic third-person shooter. I might have to grab it now.

When Spec Ops was first released on the PS, it was the first game that was sold at the $9.99 price point. It was a HORRIBLE series. I've been leery of anything with the Spec Ops name since. I'm sure i'll get it at some point (I always seem to get all the shooters at some point) but i'm in no rush.

I just finished the campaign and I would suggest that anyone pick it up who enjoys a good story, be for warned though that it's very dark.
I haven't jumped into the multiplayer yet but have heard its crap from practically every review out for the game.
Overall I'm very satisfied since I ended up getting it in a BB deal recently, I would say the game is worth 40 bucks for the story alone and definitely worth your time for a rental.
If any of you do get it I suggest you spend time to go after every piece of intelligence in the game as it really fleshes out the events leading up to initially hitting ruined Dubai. Also there are a ton of little details that aren't "waypoint marked" in the game from some of the things displayed on the walls to dialog overheard, just don't rush and pay attention to the little details while running through the game. I clocked in around 6 hours on the second highest difficulty so its not outstandingly long but it does encourage multiple playthroughs for several of the key decisions you make in the game, that and the multiple endings. Again I can't encourage you enough to try this out, it starts off very bro-shooterish but quickly becomes something much much more.

this game wasnt even in my top 200 games radar until i came into this thread, intrigued, i looked further into this and decided it was worth a shot.
to thank all of you for sparking my interest in what seems like a hidden gem in an otherwise uneventful summer game release wise, i now share this with you

I was interested in this after seeing gameplay, but seeing how bad the PS3 version performed in comparison to the 360 version, screen tearing all over the place, I'll eventually pick it up, but it'll be the 360 version.

Although I liked the demo I played over XBL a month or so ago I felt that it dragged on for too long. It didn't seem like it would be that different from other shooters. And also...

Glad I'm not the only one to remember how badly this series started out.
