After reading the thread on games that didnt live up to their hype, what games (if any) DID lived up to their hype?

IMHO The first two mortal kombat games lived up to their hype, as did street fighter 2 for the snes, of late, metroid prime did a great job.

Well, if I remember correctly, the hype for Enter The Matrix was that it would be a buggy, mess of a game, that Matrix fanboys would cream themselves over...

I think that game lived up to the hype...especially the buggy mess of a game bit...

I've never played such a bug riddled game...

Super Mario Bros. 3, definately. If I was old enough to cream myself back when it came out, I probably would have.

Games that lived up to their hype eh.. hmmmm

SNES Street Fighter 2.. remember the anticipation for that game? It was incredible! And the game 100% delivered the goods. In those days, it was kind of a stretch to think that a complex graphic-rich arcade game like SF2 could be brought home, and Capcom friggin delivered on the money. The control was amazing too. It lived up to the Hype.. and let me tell you boy that game was HYPED UP.

Less hype surrounded SNES Star Fox, but I remember it being hyped up to a certain degree because of the brand new technology that enabled 3D polygons, etc. When the game came out though, it was amazing as well. It definitely lived up to the expectations I think.

Virtua Fighter 4. IMHO, the best 3D fighter to date followed very very VERY closely by Soul Calibur, another game that was every bit as good as people said.

A few 2600 games that I remember eagerly awaiting and being very satisfied with the result:

- Pitfall! (especially this one - it didn't even seem possible when the game was first advertised in Activision catalogs).

- Space Invaders (WOW).

- Ms. Pac-Man (after the poor first showing of Pac-family games, I wonder if anyone really expected this to live up to its advertising campaign)
