Could I score a Laseractive system for under $500 by December 15th? Just the base unit, no Sega or NEC LD modules, box doesn't matter. Condition should be at least decent and working. The 500 bucks includes shipping, taxes, all charges.

Absolutely. Although I do have to ask, what would be the point without any modules? You'd just have a mediocre laserdisc player.

I need a Laseractive too. Want to start dumping Mega LDs but I can't afford the $700+.

It's just a starting point. Modules would come later.

I got mine on eBay with the Sega PAC, several games, and a Justifier gun for $350 + shipping. So, yes. I'd suggest paying much less than $500.

Also, pay attention to LaserDisc listings in general, not everyone calls it a laseractive, some people just call it by the model number. I picked up a backup LaserActive for about $30 six months ago off Craigslist in this manner.

I'd heard about the dumping method by one person but I didn't know it was that widespread already. Hopefully they'll be able to do something with them in the future.

The system by itself (or with the Karaoke module) seems to go for only $150-200 on eBay. With the Sega Module, it seems to be about $250-300. Shipping is usually $20-40. None of the auctions asking $400+ are actually selling.
It gets expensive when the NEC module is brought into the equation, but that shouldn't be a problem for you if you are just looking to get the system.

The one I used to have was about $200 with like 20 CIB Sega CD games that nobody seems to want to buy off me, and the Sega Module part of it which I still have. It was a shame I never got to try out any Laserdisc games.
