Before I went into work today, I went over to a friend's house to help him to organize it. Well, it's really a house he has'nt lived in for years, and was kept by his folks as a secondary house. His Mom passed away last week and since the house was left to him in the will he's going through everything and doing a inventory (he's my age, 27).

While were upstairs on the third floor, he told me how that floor used to be a attic only but was expanded to be a extra room and storage area about 15 years ago. He talked about his memories while I moved aside some old furtinue and other junk. Then I noticed the wall looked a little thin and asked him about it. We confirmed it was indeed hollow, and curiousty got the best of us. A few hammer swings later and we were in a smaller area that was left over from the 'old' attic and had been sealed since about 1988.

Not much was evident, at first.....but then I discovered, in a old bag, a surprising find -- a brand new, never opened, Nintendo Entertainment System!

The best my friend and I can figure is that his Mom bought it for him for Christmas 1987 but put it into storage and did'nt give it to him because of a bad incident that my friend did that year. Then it was forgotten about and sealed up when the attic was redone.

We opened the box and confirmed that everything is there and indeed in the factory plastic bags. It's a basic system -- the deck, two controllers, and Super Mario Brothers. My friend really does'nt want it himself -- we both agree it's more fun to play on a emulator with a second generation NES controller :) -- but he intends to sell it to help raise money.

Any clue as to what this is worth?

NOOOOO!!... don't tell me you broke the seal and opened the box?

Did you really do that????

a used complete one, unsealed will top out at about $60-70, if you are lucky....a NEW still sealed system from 1985 I saw 2 on ebay last year and one ended at $190 ish and the other was $217

Well, we HAD to open the box....how else were were going to confirm that the system was actually IN there??? For all we knew, it was a empty box! Or being used to store other things. Unless we peaked inside to see what was in there, there was no way of knowing.

But we did'nt touch anything else -- everything is still wrapped in the plastic bags from the factory. We only slid the tray out a little bit to be able to see what was in it. When the box was closed again you could'nt even tell it was opened. :-D

I didn't realize that the original systems had seals on them at all. I thought they just had little tabs.
I don't see how anyone would be able to prove that it was opened at all.

In my opinion, a complete machine sealed is in vain...you have to play with it!!!!

What shape is the box in?

I've been looking for a new one but I don't trust people I don't know on Ebay. If you are serious about selling send me an PM.
