View Full Version : Damn. There is like 400 freaking games that I want!

Recently I've gone from zero retro or so called "retro" game systems to having 7 "retro" systems. I've added the Turbo, the Genny, the SNES, the Jag, The Sat, the PSX and the N64 to the lineup. Well, the thing is that I have bought games for all of these systems, and for some of these systems, I've bought like 10 games or so. So it isn't like I have a super shortage of games or anything. I probably have about 50 games between these 7 systems.

But, having said all that, there are tons and tons of games that I want. I went from system to system listing all the games I'm interested in. When I add the whole thing up, it's like 400 FREAKING GAMES!

I mean, I have so many games right now, that would take some serious time to play through, but I can't stop thinking about all the other games I want. I'm on Ebay always trying to find deals. Every Saturday is Garage Sale day, and I've been hitting up the thrifts as well looking for steals. I've also been hitting the used games stores trying to find decent buys. I've recently got some old gaming magazines, and after looking through them, it's just made the situation even worse! I see even more games I'm interested in. Not only that, I'm even seeing other systems that I want, and their whole library of games too!

Damn, when is this going to stop? I wish I could just relax and enjoy what I got, but it seems that I can't stop this never ending wanting of everything I don't have.

Has anybody else experienced this? What did you do to get this under control?

You don't. Plain and simple. There is a beast inside of us... A raving, maniac collecting beast that cannot be stopped. It's useless to try.

Yeah, I understand, but I'm not even a collector. I just want to play these damn games! I don't care if I get manuals or cases or whatever. All I want to do is play the games.

I know that I can only play so many games at any one time, and that if I want to get seriously deep into a game, I need to just focus on two or three games at a time.

So it really doesn't make any real sense for me to add more games to my lineup right now.

But like an addict, I keep on banging away on Ebay trying to add more and more.

SOME BODY STOP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that we've all experienced this at some point or another. About a year or two ago, I got bitten by the spending bug, and was getting about ten+ games a week by hitting the flea markets and Funcoland on a regular basis. There were always games I needed to get, and always a pile of games for me to play through.

I would always slow down as the school year started for me, but by the time the summer rolled around again, I was out there hunting for new games again!

It would be the same this year too, but this summer has plagued me with problems. I just had surgery a few weeks ago (7/11), and that has been keeping me from the stores and flea markets. Also, ebay has been limited for me as my computer kicked the bucket around the same time as my surgery. It still hasn't been fixed, and this is one of the rare times I've had a chance to get online this summer.

Oh well, at least now I have some time to beat the games that I've amassed over the past few years  .

I guess you could get a Dreamcast and purchase NES, SNES, GEN, GB, GG etc. emulators for it. That could help. I've only tried arcade emulators, so I'm not sure how good these are.

I've got emulators on the computer right now, but that just isn't the same for me.

1. I don't like playing games sitting in my computer chair.
2. I don't like not using the actual real controller.

I absolutely agree! I don't mind arcade emulation (I can't afford a dedicated MAME cabinet right now). But when it comes to console emulation... Well, I don't think it's what God intended. I think it may be a damnable sin or something. I wouldn't want Him to smite me or anything.
:D

That and I just can't get into it on a computer screen and without the intended controller.

I have resolved not to buy any more games until I have played all the ones I have purchased so far. I'm not just saying that I'll look at the first level and stop; I'm going to _finish_ them all. This includes all the semi-legal abandonware I have also download over the years.

This will take a very long time.

Anthony1, my advice to you is to get the games complete if you can, because when the "cookie monster" phase of your collecting mania cools off to a "prowling collector" slow burn, you'll probably find that you actually DO want complete games and you'll be glad that you bought them that way to begin with. Yes, even if you just want them to play right now. Again, if you can. Trust me on this one.

hehe, there's only around 10-20 games I want right now. Although each of them is pretty expensive.

And MAME does not compare to the real thing at all. Not even close. It is nice to have for those extremely tough to find arcade pcb's, but trust me, owning and playing the real arcade pcb's on your TV or cab is WAAAAAAY better than MAME.

Is there a SNES DC emu that runs at full speed yet?

Not SNES, but there are quite a few that do run perfectly on the DC, such as NES, SMS, Gameboy (bw and color), Atari 5200/800, Colecovision to name a few. Some of the emulators for the DC I don't mind at all, as using the DC joystick is fine with me and playing it on a real TV adds to the effect. I bet if it weren't for the controller and I hid the Dreamcast while playing most people wouldn't even know the difference between a real NES or the DC :) Yeah, it's that good.

Yeah this is definitely going to take a super long time. I thought about doing the same thing, and that is what I'm trying to do now, but I'm still on the prowl for other games. I'm just not going to go overboard, and I'm going to be very, very cheap about it, only getting games that I really, really want, and if they are super dirt cheap.
