so I'm recently getting back into play my old school nintendo. however, I have very limited time to play (grad school takes up about 12 hours a day of my time...).

I've been craving to play some quick adventure type games (maybe beat in 2-3 hours? or under 8 or so? is this unrealistic?). at the same time, I have NO experience with nes games of this sort. I don't even know where to begin haha.

I really like engaging storylines. the only game I have to jump off of is star tropics (haven't finished it yet...) although that isn't quite the adventure I'm thinking about...more geared towards a lord of the rings-type deal (before school I had just started getting back into the books)

basically I don't want (or have the time) to jump all over a bunch of sweet sounding games with good names. just lookin for some quality titles I can get back into. sorry if this is sorta jumbled or just unrealistic, been in the library for a few hours and no where near done...thanks guys!

(and if you have any for sale, lemme know!)

Willow. See the movie, play the game. It's an RPG, so it may be a little time consuming....but I feel I beat it in under 10 hours, but memories are faulty. In any case, it's Lord of the Ringy.

Well theres the common ones like Shadowgate and Deja Vu which are definitely worth playing. I recommend Nightshade, it's a game that unfortunately gets overlooked by so many and is loads of fun, it's funny too. Best of all it shouldn't run you more than 8 bucks loose.

A boy and his blob is pretty fun as well.

There's also Uninvited which goes along with them. There's also Maniac Mansion, the PC version is better but the NES port is also good.

If you want something action-oriented, get Clash at Demonhead and The Guardian Legend. Those are two of the best NES games.

I agree with Firebrand. Shadowgate is a fun game and worth playing. If you're looking for short fun games, I also recommend any of the Ninja Gaiden games, Little Nemo and if you okay with bothering a "kiddy" game, Kirby's Adventure is pretty enjoyable.

thanks! I'll probably check out some videos of these on youtube before shopping around. I have a toploading NES coming by the end of the week (hopefully) so maybe I'll get some games in before then too.

more suggestions never hurt

It doesn't get much better than Crystalis. It's got a battery so you can save and come back later to play.

How about Metal Gear? It features adventure elements (like an equipment inventory) and a good story. And it's not extremely long.

Totally digging Rygar for this. Has skill/energy building, item collecting, area exploring, some fun bosses and can all be finished in under a few hours if you've never done it before. No battery, though, so be ready to sit for a little bit or be able to pause it for a while if you need to get up.

I still dig this game out and play it every so often even though I know it backwards and forwards. Just look past the paper thin plot and somewhat repetitive music (that will still get stuck in your head) and you'll be good to go.

I was going to suggest Rygar for the NES, but there's hardly any story and it gets pretty confusing with the backtracking. It frustrates me.
