lets say you could only keep one fighting game, and you had to get rid of the rest or else you died, what would you keep?
for me, it would be Marvel vs. Capcom 2. its pretty simple and easy to play, there's tons of characters, and its easy to pull off huge combos. a very fun game indeed.

Based on my pitiful fighter collection, I'd have to say XMen vs. SF. Similar to Marvel vs. Capcom, but if I owned that one, I'd probably say that one instead.
Or maybe Soul Calibur. Tough choice.

Capcom Vs. SNK 2.
Street Fighter Collection for US Saturn. Its rendition of Super Turbo is messed beyond measure by slowdown, but it has good versions of plain old Super (not that exciting, but..) and Alpha 2 Gold. Overall, enough to keep anyone busy for quite a while.

Currently it would have to be Capcom vs SNK 2 on the PS2. Tons of characters and variety would and does keep me busy. The best from both fighting worlds in my own op. :D

You're joking. You've GOT to be joking. The 2D Dragonball Z fighters were better, and that still isn't saying much.

This is a tough one...lots of good games. I like Dead Or Alive 2...but there's not enough fighters in it for me (but I might pick DOA3 if I had an XB). I like the Tekken series...mostly T2 but not sure if I like Tekken 4 as much. I like Super Street Fighter II a lot but have gotten used to the modern 3D games so I guess I'll go with Soul Calibur...II...with Link.
Unless we have to also include Boxing games in this poll. Then I gotta go with my SNES copy of Super Punch-Out...

Street Fighter II Turbo for SNES: best version of the best fighting game. Period.

this is not an easy decision. only 1. pretty much all i play are fighting games. i would want to say capcom vs snk 2 for any console (except gamecube), but i beat it on the hard setting without blinking, so the game gets boring. maybe dead or alive 3, but i am the same way with that game, and i don't even have an xbox. if i could only have 1, it would have to be one that would keep me occupied for days on end. clayfighter maybe. i know, i know, the game blows, but i rule at it. one with a good challenge would have to be guilty gear x. i have not played ggx2, but want to.guilty gear is good enough to where you can play against your friends and play nice and samurai showdown style, or you can show them what is up, and throw them off showing them how fast and insane the game truly is. plus, the guys get more difficult as you beat more people on arcade mode, regardless of difficulty. i have not played any neo games, so i couldn't say one way or the other with them, but if i had to pick one, it would have to be guilty gear x, just because i would be able to sit down and spend more time on that game than any other fighter.

Soul Calibur 2 (Xbox) with my arcade stick--pure fighting bliss!!
Virtua Fighter 3! Has to be one of the best fighters ever. I hate that Sega tried to dumb down VF4 a bit and make it slower like Tekken. I stll think Vf4 is good though, just not the direction i would have liked the series to go. When i play against a worthy opponet in VF3 it's like watching 2 people perform a beautiful dance. Amazing! VF3 is the best fighter for me! That's my pick!

I would pick Soul Calibur 1 for DC and my second choice would be SC 2 for gamecube.
Get ready to laugh.
Believe it or not, my choice would be Fighter's Destiny for the N64. #1, not #2.
I dunno why, other than the game just gives me warm and fuzzies.

It would definitely be Marvel vs. Capcom 2. I've been playing this for so long, and love the enormous combos system. BEST. FIGHTER. EVER. IMO

As any of you who have read my recent posts are aware of, I'm not big on fighting games. The only fighting game that has really held my interest was Street Fighter II for the SNES, so I'd go with that.
Virtua Fighter II. Its brilliance goes without saying, despite the cheesy voice acting and the now primitive looking 3D graphics. If only my Saturn still worked...

ROTD, Very good game.
If I could pick 3: The King of Fighters 2003, (New) Power Instinct: Matrimelee, or Real Bout Fatal Fury 2: The Newcomers.
KOF 2003 is my current favorite but it cant compete With Matrimelee in originality (Plus Ive always been a Power Instinct Fan), so yeah I pick Matrimelee

Matrimelee rocks. I love using White Buffalo and Mr. Jones. It's a pretty simple fighting game, but it's alot of fun. All in all, though, my favorite fighting game is Street Fighter 2 Turbo, followed close by Fatal Fury Special.

Holy crap, Magnor. That avatar is way too big.
I would choose Super Smash Bros: Melee. I do not like other fighting games at all. And SSB:M is great fun with characters I love.
Boy, I hope there's a sequel.

That's a tough one... depends on what console(my backlog of fighting games is getting way too big!):
NGPC: King of Fighters: Round 2. I do not have MotM yet so I can't compare both.
DC: Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves (again, I have not tried the Capcom vs SNK series).

I would pick Fighters: Megamix(Saturn) It's got tons of characters/arenas to choose from. All the Virtua Fighter characters, all of the Fighting Vipers characters(plus tons of hidden/cameo characters). Either F:MM or Tekken 3 for PS1 that is...

This is not easy as I love fighters and I think that they have gotten better over time. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is probably one of my favorites but if I had to pick just one I would have to go with an older favorite.

Street Fighter Alpha 2 w/o a doubt. Sagat was in his fighting prime in that game, that and he didn't look like a starved corpse. The new characters were cool too. I think the game play flowed quite well on the Saturn.

Without a doubt, Super Smash Bros. Melee!
Not only is the multiplay infinitely fun (literally, i could play it nonstop forever!) the single player game has a ridiculously huge amount of gameplay to offer as well.
tekken 5 for me, you get tekken 1,2,3 and 5 plus you have devil within as well as you can unlock starblade, that's enough variety to keep one busy for a while

King of Fighters 98 for Neo Geo.
It is the best KOF.
Graphics, music and the Middle Age Team formed by Heidern, Takuma Sakazaki and Saisyu Kusanagi.
The weak point this game is abstence of story, but the gameplay and fun factor is excellent.

I'm suprised that no ones mentioned it yet but Street Fighter Alpha 3 for PSX. It was designed like it was going to be the last SF title ever and they put so much into it that no other SF title stands up to it. When SF III Double Impact and Third Strike came out I was so disappointed. They had a fraction of the cast and a fraction of the features. SFA3 had unlockable characters and modes, customizable characters and THE largest cast of characters out of any SF title. You could change thier super move, this was especially nice for people like me to use the V-ism because some A-isms are a little hard and I can hardly ever pull off a X-ism. They introduce some really cool characters too.
Honorable mention goes to Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 for SNES. It had so many unlockable menus that the replay value way up there. I think that there were about 4 of them and they allowed for you to play as Kintaro, and Shaw Khan, take no damage, play Space Invaders and a ton more. It had every character in it up until that time. Its only stightly below SFA3 but in its own league amoung others.

I don't have many fighting games, so I would have to pick my Mortal Kombat for the Sega Genesis. If I could choose a game that I plan to pick up, it would either be; Killer Instinct gold (N64) or Virtua Fighter (Sega Saturn). I know there are other games out there that are much better than the ones that I mentioned, but these are my fav's.

I would have to say that I would keep Marvel vs. Capcom simply for the fact that you could play as so many characters and not to mention the fact that I have a huge loyalty to 2-D fighters, but MVC2 only barely beats out Soul Calibur 3 becasue of create-a-character

Amen. I'd rather have the original (on SNES) than Turbo or Super. It was the first one I played and the one I spent the most time with, even after I tried the two later SFII games on the system. I never enjoyed using any of the bosses, other than for kitsch value, since I was more comfortable with Ken or Ryu. It was an uphill battle trying to play a serious one-player game and win with the likes of M. Bison or Balrog, no matter how tough they could be to face as a computer opponent at times. I thought they sucked when you were playing AS them, instead of against them. As for the speed, I liked the game the way it was.
