Hi folks,

You wouldn't happen to know what this is, would you?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3536657483&category=187&rd=1

I won it and finally received it. It does indeed fit into a Genesis system, and it also allows a Famicom cart to fit on the top. I only get a black screen on my Genesis. I even tried puting the Famicom cart on backwards. Of course, it does say on the front "for use...with our 16 BIT console. (ONLY AE-928 CONSOLE)"

Our? WTF? Well, who does this "our" refer to?

Also, on the back it also mentions it works with the AE932 and the AE938, whatever those are (well so much for ONLY AE-928 CONSOLE).

Any ideas? Thanks so much!

Yours,
Rob

So you beat me on that auction!! Oh well at least I can see if it does what it said it could.
Also is you genesis able to play imports? That may be it. Is the cartridge dirty? I know simple things you have probably already thought of. BTW my ebay user id is gameboyadvanced

But that's just me, dude.

I think you need a japanese system.

Wow, that is a strange, cool looking device. Do you have the Genesis hooked up to a Sega CD or 32X? That stuff often interferes with weird pirate crap.

I think this is for use in conjunction with a back up device like a super magic drive (those pirate machines that let you dump carts to disk). So this card probably lets you dump Famicom carts to disk even though it's originally for use with the Megadrive.

There's no way this lets you play Famicom games on a Megadrive, they use completely different processors etc.

Sorry.

it's probably for one of those crappy pirated genesis systems. Oh well, I hope you find a use for it.

Open it up and post a picture of it's guts. Maybe then we could sorta maybe tell what it could possilbly might be used with.

I plan to open it up soon, as soon as I dig up a hairdrier to loosen the label.

I already disconnected my Sega CD and 32x anticipating problems. Oh, I cleaned all contacts too.

I have a feeling if it even does work, it is just a "NES on a Chip" with passthrough for power and video signal...I can't imagine it would use any of the Genesis's processing power whatsoever.

So does anyone know for sure what those model numbers refer to? I think that would really crack the case.

Also, I already own a Famicom, but being a collector, that is not the reason I bought the cart.

Oh, and Kai, hope you're not mad at me! :-)

Thanks, guys!

Yours,
Rob

Hi Folks,

I now have scans of the inside. Very few pins actually make contact with the Genesis. Well, I don't actually have a site to host them on. Any volunteers that I could send these to?

Oh, and Maxlords mentioned in a PM to me that he a had a very similar looking (lables same style and such) peripheral for the Genesis. What was it, for playing imports across regions, Maxlords?

Thanks again!

Yours,
Rob

Thats what I think it is too. I have seen other adapters like a Genesis to Snes that was used in a copier.Seems like you paid too high a price for it though :/

Hmmm... a chip blob. That means it's probably more complex than a cartridge copier adapter, probably a NES on a chip then. Have you tried on a model 1 Genesis, with both the RF and A/V out? With as few pins as it has, I'm guessing it just passes video.

Hello,

I did try it on a model one...the altered beast model one, actually. I tried RF only....I don't have any A/v cables for my system...

I wonder if the cart is "dumpable"....just to see what data is on that blob.

Any Genesis/NES tech wizards out there that may know?

Well, I had a Genesis backup unit back in the day, and it was called the Super MAGIC drive. I wish I still had it so I could check the model number and see if it matches what this cart is asking for. I can almost guarantee this would not allow famicom carts to run on a Genesis/Megadrive however. It is probably used with the backup unit just to backup the carts to file format.

What I have is a Mega Key, which is a dip-switch Passthrough cart that lets you play imports. It's got the same style label and cart design though....
