with free shipping- it doesn't seem too outlandish. i am a little surprised there are no bids.

It's a bit high for a "lot" listing imo. Without going through everything in detail, 2-4k is probably the retail value on that entire lot (unless I'm overlooking something). Very few people would buy a lot like that at retail.

I personally wouldn't pay more than 1200-1500 for everything, shipping included. Very few things that I would want to keep for myself (the NIB Sega consoles for instance) and it would take a lot of time and storage space to sell the rest. Now, if he split that lot up by system, he could probably get his asking price, maybe more depending on the games for some of the systems. I saw that listing the other day and have it bookmarked in the event he splits it up into multiple listings.

700 games (more or less) means an average of $5 per game, ignoring all the systems altogether, and there's a lot of systems and accessories. Sure, most of the games are common, but not all (I just sold a copy of Order of the Griffon for $75, though that one was complete). He's even throwing in an arcade game of your choice if you pick the lot up in person.

If I still heavily collected like I used to, didn't have most of this already, and assuming the later gen games (PS1 and newer) aren't disc only, I'd probably be willing to pay $3.5k for this.

Totally didn't belong in Classic Gaming. Doesn't really belong in What's It Worth. But since we're talking value....

Hmm.. sold for $3500.

It didn't sell for $3.5K. The listing just ended is all.
I expect the seller will probably re-list it at a lower price.

I wouldn't really enjoy acquiring a massive collection in an auction like this.
I'm in to collecting for different reasons than just mass accumulation.

Ah... I see. I thought that seemed high for it to sell for.

I agree. I like finding single items or small lots. It's like treasure hunting. What fun is it if someone just brings you everything?

Whatever fun there is in actually playing the games I guess. If someone offered to just give you their massive collection, I doubt you or anyone here would turn it down because it takes away from the challenge.

As for the value, I'm not sure. I haven't gone through every game to add up the value of it all. There are some rare games but they're mostly for systems I don't personally collect for, and you're basically paying full price for everything. Plus everything is loose, for me it wouldn't be worth it to spend so much when I'll be keeping so little for myself and the stuff I would keep wouldn't be that rare.
