Japanese 32X and U.S. Genesis.

I was curious if a Japanese 32X will work on a U.S. Genesis System.

Reason being, As of now I have 2 Genesis systems.
One is a Model 2, and I read how a 32X can serve as a pass through, much like the Game Genie.
However, the cart port of the 32X is shaped exactly like the cart port on the U.S. systems. No way of fitting a Japanese cart in there without surgery.
On the Japanese and European editions of the 32X, the cart door is wider like the Genesis model 3 that I use for quick plug and plays of imports that don't have region lockouts.

So in the interest of making a less ugly, streamlined Genesis system, ( and freeing up an input on my AV switcher ) has anyone had any experience knowing if A Japanese 32X will work with an American Genesis system?

I figure that would be best as Japan and U.S. A.C. adapters are close and I might not fry both systems and burn the house down?

I only ask because if I pursue this, things could get pricey and I'd hate to spend a lot of money on a failed experiment.

Yes but this is the same tale as SNES or N64. For just gaming a huge waste of money.

US and Japanese models of 32X behave near identical. There's few in-game reasons to consider purchasing the opposite.
Both 32X regions fit either console and most games. Note how even US 32X has a cartridge lock notch for Japan Megadrive.

All Japanese 32X offers is a wider opening for the games that don't already fit many US 32X units. (which you can deal with yourself)

Their power input ratings are alike too, forget about the Japanese AC adapter especially if it would be shipped from Japan. We all know how much bricks affect postage.

AC adapters always have an input voltage range. All the JP game system AC adapters that I have say that they're perfectly safe up to and often well beyond 120V AC, even the consoles with internal adapters like the PS and Saturn.

The internet is a great source for information, however sometimes the information contradicts itself.

I know people use import consoles, some swear that you need an up / down converter, others say no issue.

From what I've read from a video on YouTube, the Japanese 32X is just an american model with a different sticker and a notch for the Mega Drive's cartridge lock. Besides that, there's no difference. It's sort of like how most Genesis games are multi-region and detect the model of Genesis that you're playing on to display different languages.

American 32X has the notch for Japanese consoles also. Even a Europe PAL 32X does, for some reason.

Probably a cost cutting measure. Just crank them all out with the notch instead of some with, some without.
