View Full Version : Have you ever exposed a person to a bad game on purpose?

I was hanging out with an old friend today and at one point in conversation he asked if I had E.T. for the 2600. I do, and offered to set up the 2600 to let him see it. We ended up going through a number of other 2600 games which he was playing for the first time, but his reaction to E.T. with no prior understanding of its game mechanics or goal was almost exactly what I expected to see. He walked from screen to screen without purpose, often getting nabbed by passers by, and had to struggle with escaping the pits for a good half dozen tries before figuring out how to actually reach land from an especially odd one. It was sort of entertaining in a way to watch something like this play out, the natural reaction of frustration that somehow helps to confirm for you the true nature of the game, or maybe it just makes you laugh. Whether or not you agree with E.T. being classified as "bad", have you ever exposed a person to a bad game to see their reaction? If so, how'd it go?

Yeah When I Showed My Cousin Winter Game's For The NES I Said Hey Look At This New Cool Game I Almost Beat It But He Like Only Played Mario So I Had To Tell Him It Was A "LIMITED EDITION" Super Mario Bros. He Fell For It And He Was Shocked At How Bad The Game Was And Needless To Say He Was Pissed At Me But We Still Laugh About It Though

You mean person, haha.

It may not worth though, just because you don't like a game does not mean another person can't love it.

Over the past couple weeks, my 6 year old and I have been playing through my 2600 library. To my surprise, he's actually enjoyed quite a number of the games but for some reason I decided to introduce him to Sneak 'n Peek last Friday. I hate Sneak 'n Peek, it's my least favorite game on the 2600, and I expected my son to hate it too and we could share a few laughs over it. I was wrong. He actually enjoyed running out of the room while I hid, and then having me do the same. I'm not too sure if it was over the stupid concept of the game or the actual gameplay itself, but he was laughing hysterically the whole time.

Either I have to rethink what I believe makes up a bad game, or my son is into Kusoge. In any case, I'm doomed as he has been wanting to play the game again.

The appeal of Sneak'n Peak is that it makes no damned sense. You can hide inside the carpet. I've never had to use a carpet knife to play hide'n seek before. My cousin and I thought it was absolutely hilarious when we first discovered the game.

Also, I once made my wife and her sister try Kriss Kross Make My Video. (It was a CD-R. I didn't actually buy that thing.)

I have never done it with a video game, but I have done it with a movie/DVD. I use to work at a video game store. We would always take a movie home and if it was good, recommend it other employees and customers.

One night I brought home the DVD movie "Hard Cash". It was amazingly bad. Well I couldn't help myself and recommended it to a few employees. I told them it was one of the best movies I have seen. After a few of them watched it, it became a joke to get an un-expecting person to buy it under the guise that it is an amazing movie. Customers would buy it on our recommendation and it would always come back within a few days. That single DVD made us more money than any other game or movie in the store. We only had one copy of it, but it always sold & came back fast. It must have been sold 40 times over a few months.

To this day, if I see it in a store, I try and recommend it to someone. I just saw a copy of it at a small Video Game store in Colorado and tricked the owners into watching it. Afterwards, I told them them the back story. Now, they recommend it to their customers. Trust me, "Hard Cash" is an amazing movie! WATCH IT!!!

I had my wife's cousin playing the Cheetahmen 2. Watching his pure frustration as he had no idea how to shoot or avoid enemies, discovered that he can't fall far without dying a la Donkey Kong and general disorientation towards everything was nothing short of hilarious. He couldn't stop going either, he was determined to get through the first stage.

It never happened.

And he's almost 30 FYI.

You know, it might be because he was playing with his daddy more than anything. Kinda like hide an seek, but ... with daddy.

Many of my friends had heard about the CDi Zelda games. None of them were prepared for how bad they really are.

I remember exposing one of my best friends to the Way of the Warrior demo for 3DO. He was absolutely DUMBFOUNDED, and in fucking STITCHES the whole time. He was literally doubled over and in tears, slobbering all over the place at the cheesy shit talking. The game play was bad enough, but the dialog is so (unintentionally?) hilarious.

My friend was a fan of the Dragons Lair arcade game growing up, and I recently got him to try the NES port. Imagine his frustration at the FIRST SCREEN. It took him a good 20 minutes to get past it, and he was spewing profanities at the TV the entire time. I was on the floor in absolute stitches, watching him rage and flail his arms around like he was set to smash something. He must have tried to walk through the door without killing the dragon in the moat first at least ten times, and was convinced the game was glitching until I finally told him that you have to kill the dragon before you can proceed. But every time he walked into the door, something like this would inevitably follow:

"WHAT. THE. F**K. WHY IS THIS GAME SO MESSED UP. WHY DO I DIE FROM TOUCHING THE DOOR. THIS IS BULL. I HATE THIS. WHY DO I DIE FROM TOUCHING. A GOD. DAMN. DOOR."

It was, quite seriously, one of the most hilarious things I've ever had the joy of witnessing. I shoulda filmed it.
