Nintendo, without a doubt. They've been my go-to console since I was a kid, even though I also have Sega, MS, and Sony.

Now, I"m passing it on to my children. We buy every console Nintendo releases now.

I am still missing a virtual boy, though.

This.

Not that I haven't enjoyed other consoles, but these two are part of my golden age of console gaming as a kid.

Sega.

The Japanese Saturn is my all-time favorite console. The Dreamcast and Genesis would both make my top 10. Sega's hardware specs were usually the best for arcade style gaming.

Atari vs. Nintendo:
This one is difficult. Atari has a special place in my heart. It was the first and one of the best. Some of the two player Atari games are a blast. Games like Maze Craze, Slot Racers, Indy 500, Warring Worms II, etc. are still a blast to play today.

Nintendo is the only one to give them a run for the money. Games like Contra, Sunset Riders, Mario Bros., etc. are stellar. It would be a difficult choice to make. Nintendo probably gets played more, but Atari still has a "magic" feel to it.

I actually could live with just those two and be very happy. Take one of those two away and part of me would be sad.

Actually I think it might be SNK and I dont even have my Neo Geo yet. I have been reviewing the hell out of the system and the games and history and it all seams so awesome. I have 4 games with more on the way and cant wait to play them.

Definitely Sega, they just provided more and higher quality Action games than any other individual developer every generation they had a console.

Atari and Nintendo consoles are the two I play the most, but I'd lean Nintendo if I only had to pick one (mainly for the NES, SNES and Gamecube WITH the Gameboy Player).

Nintendo took the US by force in 1987 and it hasn't been the same since. Need I say more?

Fixed that for you, the NYC test launch in late 1985 was considered a failure and the NES wasn't released nation wide until 1986, alongside the 7800 and Master System.

Nintendo took Japan/USA by force in 1983/1987 and it hasn't been the same since. Need I say more?

Fixed that for you too. Wasn't the world, in Europe the NES did very badly actually.

Anyway, as others said, ATARI, no contest.

Considering the Nes, PS1 and original Xbox are my three favorite consoles this is a really tough one. But I'd probably have to go with Microsoft since this is the first time I've gotten two consecutive generation consoles by the same platform holder(even though today I own all three current gen systems). Before that I went from 2600 to Nes to Genesis to PS1 to Xbox. Microsoft was the first to keep me in place but I'm pretty sure that has alot to do with their online multiplayer.

Sega.
Saturn and Genesis.

The build quality never felt cheap, but Nintendo built their systems like a tank as well.

I like that Sega just went ahead and made systems like the Nomad...there was no demand for them at the time, the screens weren't much better than the game Gear, but they could.

32X because they could.
SVP Chip and price Virtua Racing at 100 dollars? Why not?
Sega Game Gear, a battery vampire for a portable system? Sure.

I was in High School in the early 90's so I had that disposable income.
I think younger kids trying to talk their parents into shelling out for the same items could prove trickier.

The NES however was like the Atari 2600....I think after a certain point, the government issued them to all household who listed dependents under 12 on their tax returns.
Great system that saved the industry.

Console maker? I guess Nintendo, considering the NES, SNES, and N64 are my top three systems, plus I like pretty much every Nintendo system (to varying degrees; yes, including the Virtual Boy). But I also have much love for Sega, NEC, SNK, Sony, etc. Of the big ones, probably the only one that doesn't matter much to me is Microsoft. I mean, I like my 360 all right (still haven't bothered to get an original Xbox since there's so little on it of interest to me), but it's not remotely close to being one of my favorites (none of the current home consoles are, to be honest, but I do love DS and PSP).

After a photo finish for second..... Nintendo by a nose.

Its a tie for Sony and Sega for me because the games each offered on their platforms. I liked all of the quirky games that Sega offered as well as the wide variety of software available on Sony platforms.

Sega by far. They always pushed the envelope with new ideas and took risks (which bit them in the ass). I don't care what anyone says, the 32X was an absolute genius idea, it's just that due to the time-frame of release, it probably should have never come out.

Just everything that we take for granted nowadays in gaming we can thank Sega for.

Number 2 would have to be Sony, simply because of how they push the multimedia center stuff with the consoles, but it's at heart a games console. PlayStation 2 especially. I can't tell you how fun it was to "build" my PS2 over the years. First buying the network adapter, then the EyeToy, then the HDD, etc. Sure, it cost a lot of money in the end, but I'm a HUGE fan of expandability (Thanks Sega!).

This even goes with the PS3. Sure they've put some restrictions down now (removing OtherOS is a perfect example), but the fact that before the hacking stuff Sony promoted and encouraged you to do whatever the hell you want with your console (Linux, user upgradable HDD, you can copy just about any form of multimedia to your console via HDD or USB (As opposed to only streaming your purely through external device ala Xbox 360)) was awesome. I did all that, and more to my now dead 20GB. Unfortunately that amount of user freedom will likely be gone with Sony's next console.

Easy, Sega. From the Master System to the Dreamcast, they've made the most interesting consoles I've ever seen. That; and I love pretty much all of their franchises :D

I have the strongest emotional attachment to SEGA and NEC, so I suppose SEGA wins over NEC based solely on the number of consoles they produced; even still, it's a close call. The SEGA Master System, Genesis, and TurboGrafx-16/Duo bring me back in time like no other when I turn them on, and the period it returns me to were some of the best days of my life.

I used to have a video tape that one of my friends made back in the day with playthroughs of Telenet/Renovation games on the TurboGrafx CD (Valis 2 & 3, Final Zone II, and Last Alert) which I used to put it on almost every weekend for background noise while doing my house work house. I need to try to find that thing if it's still around.

I'm going to go with Sega, largely because of their first party games. Nintendo benefited massively from third party games during their glory days. Now that that has dried up on the console side, their usefulness has dwindled for me.

Hmm that's a hard one I mean, first console was the Genesis so Sega there, but the console I have the most games for and have the most childhood memories with, the N64, hmm, as much as I love classic Sonic and Sega, Nintendo was my childhood with Pokemon, Mario, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, so yea I'd have to say Nintendo :)

Genesis and Saturn are two of my top three favorite systems. But I'm tempted to say something silly, so I'm going with JVC. They made a nice Genesis & Sega CD combo, as well as their own version of the Saturn. They get extra points for not making a 32x or Pico.

Yobo, Hyperkin, Retro-Bit :)

If FC-16 Go was available in the 90's everyone would wet themselves. Too bad it would probably run on clunky AA batteries...

Lot of systems I enjoy. But I think I'd have to pick Nintendo. I grew up with NES and SNES. The countless days my sister and I played N64 while I was in junior high. Also can't forget the GameCube, came out my senior year of high school, the first system I purchased with my own money. Though unfortunately, not counting handhelds, I haven't been too much of a Nintendo fan ever since the Wii came out. I made the switch to PS2, another favorite, and currently enjoying the PS3.

Up until this past Christmas I would have said Nintendo. I was 10 years old in 1992 when I got my SNES (and Link to the Past). I played hundreds of hours on that system.

BUT...... My fiance gave me a SEGA Genesis and a few games this past Christmas. I LOVE IT! I always wanted one when I was a kid but never had one. I only have a few games for it but my small library is expanding as you would imagine.

In addition I now catch myself looking at auctions for Master System consoles on ebay for some strange reason....

So.... SEGA may be overtaking the Big N as my favorite maker!

NES hands down, this was the system I grew up with and holds most of my gaming memories.

I've owned Atari 2600, NES, Sega Genisis, N64, and a Dreamcast (along with a couple of hand helds). I got rid of my N64 and Genisis for store credit to put towards NES games; so I only focus on NES. I only wish I still had my Dreamcast from college. I don't remember much about it, however I see people constantly hyping it on here and it makes me want to go back and play it.
