I made this for a fellow over on the cover project and thought I'd share. GBA SP 001 front light, green power LED mod, and a custom clear blue Pac-Man 4-way ring (since the red one sticks out like a sore thumb). I just purchased a large lot of broken SP 001 units, so I've been busy adding their front lights to a bunch of portables that lack a front or back lighting :)

The new ring was made with a simple casting process. Make silicone mold from original, mix resin and dye, cast new ring. It was a fun little project :)

I kinda like the red ring better. But otherwise curious about whether or not you'd add a frontlight to someone else's NGPC or else sell frontlighted NGPCs?

I can see that, but if you've seen anything that I do to/with my collection, you know that I'm sort of addicted to customization ;)

Everything ED said. :)

I am slowly working on getting a website up-and-running for this sort of thing along with other products and services like my SNES shell idea. In the meantime, I'll gladly take orders via the forum. I'm working on a back-lit version today, which should obviously provide a better picture that's less washed out. Based on materials alone, it shouldn't be any more than doing the front-lit model. Hang tight and I'll post pics when it's done and come up with some pricing for the light and other options like the LED mod and 4-way rings (which I can definitely do in red as well :) )

I'm also knocking out a front-lit Wonderswan Crystal today >:)

How is the reflective layer attached to the back of the LCD?

I've thought about doing the front light mod on mine since that's really the only down side of the NGPC, but my back burner project list is already too big. I used to do the Afterburner mod for Gameboy Advance and I couldn't imagine this would be much different.

Whoa, that's lovely. Does it affect battery life much?

Please keep us posted on the WS front light mod too. I imagine that would be super taxing on the 1 AA, but I'd definitely be interested in your service!

It's laminated within the LCD, but it's very translucent unlike the WonderSwan Crystal or Color screen. I think I can get away with it, especially if I lose one of the layers that difuse the light in the DS screen. I'm on it right now, so we'll see. I'll do a comparison of all 3 when I'm done (normal, front light, back light).

The NGP is actually the worst console for this that I've done so far (modded with GBA SP front light). You'd think that because it's so thick that the front light would fit nicely, but it doesn't at all. It requires a lot of trimming to make work. The non-SP GBA and WonderSwan are a lot easier, and the WS is WAY thin, so I was really surprised.

Sweet

Thanks!

Just wrapped this up, sent a pic to the guy that I did the NGP for, now I'm gonna be making another one of these it would seem LOL!

Thanks! Not too long. Probably about 2-3 hours. This is actually the 3rd NGP that I've done.

You know, I can't say that I've ever paid much attention. I just know when the batteries die, I replace them LOL!

I just got done with the Wonderswan. Maybe I'll toss a fresh battery in each and turn 'em on and see how long they each last ;)

Thanks! I rarely play either of the two, but I figure it can't hurt to have one or two that are playable in the dark ;)

Is that for the SNES2, or SNES?
I have an SNES in need of a new shell.

SNES 2/mini/101. When I can eventually move them into production, and if they do well, then others will follow, including the SNES phat/001.
