On August 20, Nintendo will reveal more info on a promotion taking place at your local GameStop later this month. From August 27 until October 6, a new Mythical Pokémon will be unlocked for all players who head to their local GameStop (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gamestop) and download the exclusive Pokémon in either Pokémon White or Pokémon Black.

The only info about this new Pokémon lies in the image above - it's some kind of horse thing, we guess? Like a flamey-haired horse thing? Look for the official unveiling on August 20.

Does anyone know if they would download to a flash card playing pokemon for events like these? Like, do they/the software check for a legit copy somehow before transferring? In before I'm awful and should just buy the real game (I have), I'm just curious how that would go down.

As I understand, Nintendo wifi does a check to make sure you're using the correct game and hardware. Most of the time when you see people distributing event, promotional or custom Pokemon, they made them using a Mystery Gift editor, then loaded it onto a flashcard.

The GameStop website is claiming that this isn't a free download for Black/White, rather a freebie for Black2/White2 when you preorder the games through them.

Well, according to Serebii.net, Keldeo is downloadable to both games. However, downloading it to B&W2 allows you to unlock Keldeo's Resolute Form.

Yep, that's what everyone else is saying now, so I retract my previous statement.

Also, there is apparently a free download of Genesect for Black/White 2 from October 2nd to November 12th.

I still waiting to get my official Mew from Nintendo for Pokemon Blue and Red but until then, I settled for the free way *Goes off to perform the glitch to get it on both* :)

There was an official Mew for Red, Blue & Yellow back in 2000. It was distributed during the Pokemon 2000 Stadium Tour at many malls across the United States. Here's the article I wrote for it on Bulbapedia:

Oooo thanks for the heads up on the details but I'm 12 years too late T_T But no biggie, I'm contented with the dozens of Mews in the pc boxes now :bday:
