View Full Version : Did anyone actually use a DSi XL as their standard system?

I was just wondering this, with the 3DS XL coming out in 8 days. I thought these XL versions were marketed towards an older audience, such as people with poor vision. Did anyone outside of that audience actually use it, and are getting the 3DS XL to use as their standard system? I myself have rather large hands, and have found the DS Lite and original 3DS to be too small.

Probably picking one up when more color choices are available, I'm in no rush though.

I also have large hands and although originally I found the 3DS ok I slowly grew to hate the way it cramped up my hands. This was especially a problem with DS games and that D-pad tucked in so low on the system. I eventually stopped using it altogether because of the ergonomic problems with it and I have never dropped a portable due to comfort before. I didn't have a problem with the DS lite but something about the 3DS just made it very uncomfortable to use for extended periods of time.

I actually just bought a Bronze DSI XL to enjoy my DS games again and I love pretty much everything about it, if Nintendo can deliver the same kind of quality on the 3DSXL then ill pick it up.

Yes, I've been using a DSi XL as my main DS pretty much since it came out. The larger screens make such a difference.

I have a 3DS, and I'm planning on getting the 3DS XL pretty soon after it comes out. I don't know yet if it can also replace my DSi XL, though. I know the bottom screen is smaller than the top screen, because of the 3D. I just don't know if it will be as big as the bottom screen on the DSi XL.

That describes me to a T.. I have every single DS iteration, and my primary one is the DSi XL. It's the best.

And yes my vision got bad and I dislike playing the 3DS since the screen is so small. So it's been left unused for the most part. I'll be picking up a 3DS XL for sure.

I've never used a DSi XL. So, I find the original DS to be the most comfortable for me, other than how the edges are shaped. It also has the best shoulder buttons out of the bunch, just like the original GBA.

I also don't like how far down the original 3DS dpad is. It makes the whole system unsavory. Guess I'll be getting a 3DS XL then.

I do.

I picked up a DSi XL right after the price drop in May. Since then, I retired my black Slim and use the XL for all DS games. I was finally able to update it yesterday after being stuck with the original firmware (DSi, DS, and PSP don't recognize most modern wifi security standards, so my home network couldn't connect). Had to drag out the old WRT54G for the task.

No one has ever used a DSi XL. Not even one unit was ever sold.

Not sure why you'd do that for.

The screens of the DSiXL are larger, the battery life is superior, and you have no scaling issues with DS software.

The 3DSXL is going to be an inferior way to play DS software with no advantages that I can see. Unless one finds something like the d-pad or buttons superior on the 3DSXL, I don't understand why one would use it for DS software if they already have a DSiXL (Unless of course you want to use your handhelds as portables and just want to bring one system with you on the go).

Edit - Screen size is closer than I realized. The DSiXL's screens are 4.20" while the 4:3 area of the 3DSXL's top screen (And the entire area of the bottom screen) is 4.18".

So at least screen size won't take much of a hit going from the DSiXL to this.

I love the DSi XL, I play all my DS games on it. I specifically have been waiting since the 3DS came out for them to make an XL version and now the have. I'm conflicted between getting one right away or waiting to see if they have a special edition coming out for the holidays.

I have a DSi XL, but I think I should've just waited for the 3DS XL and killed two birds with one stone. That said, I definitely prefer the XL-ness. I don't really like portables in general; my vision is good, but looking down at a small screen for extended periods of time gives me neck cramps (or holding it up to my face gives me arm cramps). The XL doesn't completely eliminate this problem, but it does help.

The other reason is just to use a thumbstick instead of a d-pad just in case you like them better after being used to the PSP requiring you to use it to control your character in certain games, where the d-pad was reserved for scrolling through menus.
