I've recently been looking more and more into arcade sticks for various systems. However, I have no idea about the quality of sticks for Dreamcast, PS1/2 and Xbox. I have several arcade compilations for the Xbox, so one for that would be especially awesome. I don't need the best so long as it's made up for in price. Also, did they even make a stick for the N64?

There are a couple of N64 sticks, but none of them are real arcade sticks.

I use a PS1 Blaze Twin Shock, works pretty well duel purposed as a two player stick or single player twinstick with a mod.

Get a PS1/PS2 Arcade stick, it has the widest range of adapters for other consoles.

Ebay's fresh out, apparently...

Look for the old PS1 ASCIIware stick. It's extremely good. The stick has a nice, short throw to it, and uses microswitches. The buttons might be a little tiring for extreme rapid fire, but they're very responsive, and it has adjustible turbo control.

The ASCIIware stick mentioned above is a good all around joystick, but I think the buttons get a little uncomfortable.

New in box ASCIIware joystick $25.00 shipped (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Playstation-PS1-Asciiware-Specialized-Arcade-Joystick-Stick-Ascii-/170893217377?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27ca078e61)

used ASCIIware joystick $15.00 shipped (http://www.ebay.com/itm/PLAYSTATION-ASCII-STICK-/280945406795?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4169a6b34b)

I like that joystick for general gaming, but I don't like it very much for fighting games. If you want a better joystick but don't mind losing autofire, see if you can find a Hori Tekken 5 joystick. The yellow Namco joystick is also good but I wouldn't pay a whole lot for it. And be aware that there is a lot of crap to wade through for PS2; beware of those big SF 15th Anniversary joysticks, anything with "ultimate" written on it, and for god's sake stay away from that thing called a "Shadowblade".

Oh, and I agree with CRTgamer, get a PS or PS2 joystick and get an adapter for the Xbox. There aren't any good Xbox joysticks.

Hopefully the Cthulhu board gets N64 support.
Having one joystick that works with most consoles would be pretty great.

For PS1 there's the Namco stick:

For PS2, Hori started the Real Arcade Pro sticks. There are several versions of those.

For Xbox 1, I use the SF Anniversary stick. US-style bat top. It also works for PS2.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=xbox+sf+anniversary+stick&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&biw=1206&bih=874&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=J-gzUN6YJqOXiQLfg4C4CQ

I don't know of any "quality" FACTORY made arcade style sticks for N64. Plus I don't think there are too many games exclusive to the N64 that would warrant such a need.

There is also the option of getting a Gamecube to N64 adapter and using the cthulhu through that. I haven't tried it yet, but that's the plan I have for my multi-console stick if I ever have gainful enough employment to fund it.

The AgeTec Arcade Stick for the Dreamcast was amazing for the Street Fighter games & Soul Calibur. Even Dead or Alive 2 was a joy to play.

What games would you even use it for?

The two compilations I can think of contain content that's easily found on most gaming consoles since then and I can't imagine anyone spending any significant time with the fighters in the library these days.

Only Asteroids Hyper 64, the original Donkey Kong on DK64, Rampage, and Star Soldier come to mind otherwise for games that might benefit from an arcade stick.. And I'm not even sure off hand if any of these even supported digital controls on the N64.

Seems of somewhat limited utility.

The Pelican Real Arcade and the SF Anniversary stick are really the only ones you need on either PS or Xbox. Maybe a Mas, if you can get one cheap. For dreamcast the "green goblin" Agetec stick, named so for the green buttons and balltop, is really solid.

The Pelican, SF, and mas sticks are easy enough to mod if something breaks down, or if you want to add a cthulhu board (or something similar) to allow for multiple other consoles. I don't think the N64 is supported, though, so you may be out of luck on KI Gold. As far as the Agetec goes, you can mod it, but it's kind of a pain, and it needs to have been in the mix of some heavy abuse to really come up (mine did, as the result of letting friends use it that basically mash it with bearlike swipes).

That all said, if you've got some soldering skills, it's probably easy enough to pick up one of the new SF fightsticks and get a cthulhu board in there or something to mod it to run on Playstation, Dreamcast, Xbox, Saturn, and practically any other system you can think of.

Mortal Kombat Trilogy alone would justify an N64 arcade stick.
Besides, it doesn't matter if the game supports digital controls or not. You could map the stick to any directional control. Super Smash Bros. is much better this way.

I have this one too and really like it. It has a good weight and doesn't feel like you are going to throw it off the table when you use it. The buttons are good too.

See also: Killer Instinct Gold.

I didn't realize anyone was still playing old N64 fighters. I would think that there would be better ways to enjoy Mortal Kombat these days. I could see Killer Instinct Gold still getting a good bit of playtime from fans though (I had forgotten about that one).

And if a game doesn't support digital controls, then it doesn't support them. The only way then that you could play such a game with digital controls like most any arcade stick uses would be if the stick itself allows you to map the analog controls to the digital pad (Ala the MadCatz fightpads for the 360 and PS3). I know I've came across at least a couple of N64 games that struck me as being ideal candidates to use the N64's d-pad (Which is an excellent d-pad, too bad it was all but unused) that only supported the analog stick of the N64 controller.

So it's kind of important... ;)

I'd much, much rather use a stick than an N64 controller for any game, including Mario and GoldenEye. There could even be a button on top like old Atari sticks for the z-button, and maybe a trigger too for the right should button.

For PS1 there's the Namco stick:
Holy wow that's way out of my price range.

Konami's Hyperstick for the PS1 is one of the best. Probably the first consumer arcade stick with full arcade-spec Seimitsu parts. They've become increasingly pricey and sought after in recent years though.

The Cthulhu board does exactly that, which is what I had in mind.
