Sir Dan gets an entry but still no Gabe huh. I think Sony has forgotten they even own the Syphon Filter series.

According to the information they've released for retail websites, there are 20+ characters. Only 20 characters have been revailed, so there could be one more character and there could be nine more. There's still a chance Gabe might make it.
While I already have the game preordered, and I really like the first party cast introduced so far, the third party offerings are pretty bullshit in my opinion. Every single one of them are nothing more than advertising for the games either known for those characters or the games those characters are in. Big Daddy is surely a classic character. So classic that he was released on a game over a year before it was ported to the PS3. I can live with the rest of them on there, but Big Daddy on the game, especially being the first third party character announced really pisses me off.
I'd like to see a third party character, atleast one, that is there for the fanbase and not there because it's a free character to add in the game for advertising. Crash Bandicoot doesn't count, which he may or may not be in the game. Kazuma Kiryu could be added, because sure he's not too big of a character in the US, but seems like he'd be a selling point for Japanese gamers. Cloud could be added, and even though he's such an overrated character, come on, it's Cloud. Vincent instead of Cloud would also work attracting sales and I think either one would be a perfect fit for the game. There are a lot of third party characters they could try to get that people really want but they haven't released a single one.

Considering how blatant the third party offerings are just promotional material for upcoming games I think Lighting is the most probably FF Character we will see if any.
The two things really turning me off from this game are the aformentioned shameless marketing ploy by third parties and the lack of Crash and Spyro. I understand why they probably aren't but they were both such huge sellers of the PS1 that its a damn shame something couldn't of been worked out to include both of them in the game. Without them it really feels more like PS3 All Stars then anything else..anyways I heard a ton of people really enjoyed the beta they held earlier so I'm interested but probably not a day one here.

I was thinking with the announcement of FF13-3 they might include Lightning. If that happens, as many first party characters currently on the game that I do like, I'm going to cancel my preorder and will pick it up once it hits $20. It's just showing such a huge amount of disrespect to the fanbase that every time I either play the game or look at the game, I'll think of how they sold me a $60 advertisement. Well. Technically a $23 advertisement. I have it preordered at Newegg for $45 and a friend is buying the Vita voucher from me for $22, but even so they'll be getting a day one sale out of it. I'd expect bs like this to come from Nintendo, not Sony.
At this point, I'd probably be more happy with the game if they kept it exclusive to first party characters , much like Nintendo did with Smash Bros. The first Smash Bros had hardly any characters but they were characters we liked. With the current first party characters, it's got a cast of a lot of fan favorites. As a long time Playstation fan, Sweet Tooth, Nathan Drake, Good and Evil Cole, Parappa, Spike, Sir Daniel, and Toro are favorites of mine that are included in the game. It's actually more characters than I like in the original Super Smash Bros.
With less third party characters, other favorite first party characters like Gabe, Wanderer, Ashley Winchester, and Dart could be added in. The Legend of Dragoon gameplay does get a little bit old, but Dart was a cool looking character, he has enough different attacks in the game to be able to add him into Playstation All Stars easily, and if he was in the game his I'd say his Dragoon form would probably be his level three super. Also with Ashley from Wild ARMs 2, a lot of people I'm sure would rather see Rudy, but there are already a few sword wielding characters, so why not have a bayonette character with his attacks being attacking with the bayonette combined with his multiple cartridges to do different ranged attacks, with his level one being lock on(non dodgeable, very low chance of getting more than one kill because the target has to be on them and not that big of a target,) level two being multiblast(fires up in the air and a sort of spread shot shoots down,) and level three being Knight Blazer and a completely different skillset. An unlockable optional costume for Ashley could be Janus Cascade, who is exactly like Ashley, even his attacks, with his level three instead of being Knight Blazer could instead be his demon knight form, just use the same attacks since it's just a costume.
I do think they've done better than I expected with the first party line up though. I never thought we'd see Sir Daniel, Spike, or Nariko in the game, so even with the shitty third party list, their first party is really good so far.
*edit*
When I think about it, Leonard from White Knight Chronicles would also be a good character to include. Sony would atleast have a character from the best RPG from this console generation in its fighting game, that's for sure(don't believe all the bad reviews, White Knight Chronicles 2, which includes both titles and enhancements to the originals gameplay, is a great game.) But seriously. The character can be a sort of jack of all trades melee character. The weapons that he can equip in WKC are Sword and Shield, Longsword, Axes, and Spears, so if we were to disregard the sword and shield, he could have a mixture of medium/fast attacks with the spear and medium/heavy attacks with the Longsword and Axe, the spear also giving him dash range, etc. His level three would obviously be the White Knight. It wouldn't help White Knighit Chronicles 1 and 2 sell, but for those who played the game, Leonard was fairly likeable character that I'm sure has his fans as a first party main character. He's no Cloud and Sephiroth, but there's not many characters who have that sort of fanbase.
