What equipment would I need? Would I need extensive experience with electronics? Any help would be great.

Do you want to play them? Cuz you'd probably want a cabinet that's wired for jamma. You'll get the most mileage out of that.

To collect them, all you need is the boards and somewhere to store them. If you actually want to play them, you will need a cabinet. You would probably get the most mileage out of a cabinet wired with a JAMMA harness, since you would then be able to swap the boards (for the most part). An easier entry would be to get into the "system" stuff like Neo Geo MVS, Playchoice 10, Max-a-Flex, etc. An alternative to having a full cabinet would be to purchase or build a "super gun." Although they vary in bells and whistles, the idea is to take all of the wiring and parts normally in a cabinet and make it console-ized. An important thing to remember is that JAMMA is really just a wiring pinout guideline for a specific type of connector, nothing more. There's no "system," and it's very possible to have two games which have the same number of buttons that does not have them mapped the same to the harness.

As far as knowledge goes, there's a ton of it out there. As with any of this, google is your friend.
