Okay this may be a common occurance, but out of 6 or 7 N64s that I have, I've never seen it. I recently acquired one that has a translucent green piece or plate inside where you put your game. You know, if you push the dust flaps down it's usually gray, but this one has a clear green plastic piece where it would normally be gray. Anyone seen this before?
(Oh, and BTW, all the N64s I have are black, if that makes a difference.)

It's a frankensteined system. Someone was probably building systems from spare parts/broken units. The green part must have come from a green N64.

6 or 7 N64s? Then may as well file down or remove that piece of one for Japanese games, if you haven't already.

That may be so however, at the end of it's life around 2000 and motherboard revision NUS-CPU-09 , Nintendo started putting the green transparent cartridge slots in all it's N64's including the black ones, least that's what a model number database has shown.

Yeah, Alec that sounds pretty logical. I could probably check the numbers
to confirm it couldn't I? As for removing the tabs to play imports, I have a gameshark
that I use to play both Virtual Pro Wrestling games on.

There are like 3 or 4 imports worth playing anyway. Probably the only cart console that I have almost zero desire to import anything for (save for the DD stuff, which required that I pick up F-Zero JP).

Man I remember reading about the N64 DD in Nintendo Power back in the day.
This was back when it was still going to be released in the US. Anyway I was a huge
fan of Earthbound for SNES, and was practically dying to get my hands on Earthbound3 or
whatever they called it back then for the DD. Those early screenshots looked promising.

EDIT: whoops, sorry for posting this twice, I'm using a cell phone to do this and it acts very weird at times.

Sin & Punishment
Wonder Project J2
Bomberman 64
Getter Love!!
Custom Robo
Custom Robo V2
Fuurai no Shiren 2
Puyo Puyo Sun 64
Susume! Taisen Puzzle Dama
Bangai-O

Those are 10 great N64 imports right there, and I could go on. And that's not even touching all the imports that aren't amazing but are still fun and worth trying. The cartridge Japan exclusives easily beat out the 64DD releases.

With the N64, it's less a matter of there not being games worth importing and more a matter of most gamers having no idea what the N64 has to offer in terms of Japanese exclusives. It's still very much unexplored territory, save for a select few like myself who really dig into it.

Plus you have Japan only rumble releases in Super Mario 64 and Wave Race. Both are worthy imports, albeit just slightly upgraded first-gen N64 games.

I don't get why they didn't release those rumble versions in the US, it's not like they wouldn't have sold. I'd definitely like to try the rumble version of Wave Race someday.
