I saw that the Digital Press store got a copy of it in. I noticed it has a black label with some of the characters on it unlike the original repro, which was red and said Earthbound. Just curious if there are anymore differences and if there is a price difference in the two. Plus, does anyone know if we can buy stuff from the store online? I live in Tennessee, so um yeah....

Aren't these repros made by various people, who could use any type of label they wanted?

I'm not sure, that's what I'm wondering. Are they made by different people or is this a second "run" of Earthbound from the same people?

Sorry if this is considered off topic, but is Earthbound on NES drastically different from
SNES Earthbound? I know its a translated famicom game, but is it completely different,
with different story, characters, etc?

They are being made by different people. There are a number of labels that people have made over the years. There is no "run" of this game. It's just the label that Tom used (be it because he made it, or lifted it from the net) vs. what label Dick used and what label Harry used when they made copies of the ROM and threw it into a donor cart.

There are three Mother games

Mother
Mother 2
Mother 3

Mother was a Famicom game never (officially) released in the US

Mother 2 was a Super Famicom game released on the Super Nintendo as Earthbound in the US.

Mother 3 was a Game Boy Advance game never released in the US. (there is also a Mother 1 + 2 compliation cart for the Game Boy Advance. Also never released in the US)

All the NES 'Earthbound' reproduction carts you find are the unreleased NES Mother game with the official US translation (it was fully translated by Nintendo of America, but never released. All ROMs and repo carts are based on a near finished prototype game cart that was ROM dumped years latter). Typically its called 'Earthbound Zero', but I too have seen the red label repo carts simply calling it 'Earthbound' on the label.

And yes, its a different game then Earthbound. Though it shares a lot of thematic and stylistic similarities with its sequel. But it has its own storyline.

Has there ever been a repro made of Mother 3 with a translation?

No repro, but there's a translation you can play with a flash cart.

There is one in the works and you can be added to a wait list, but, with the exception of a few that were auctioned off, they're not shipping yet:
