To those here who have had hands on experience with a Wii U controller, gamepad or the conventional one, are the analogue sticks awkwardly placed for pushing the ABXY button layout below? I just wonder this as I would think that platforming and first person shooters would be awkward with up high stick placement. I just hope it isn't as I plan on purchasing the system sometime before X-mas.

I haven't been near one, but I smiled when I first saw it. It looks perfectly logical to me. The 360 always bothered me with its asymmetrical analogs. Even height analogs should, in theory, be more ergonomic.

I believe he's inquiring about how well the 4 face buttons operate, not how comfortable the right analog is.

Really? I always found the Xbox controller sticks and triggers easier to use than the Dual Shock. Sure the Dpad sucks generally on the'box but otherwise I feel it's a superior design.

I would agree, but I think if the 360 had symmetrical analog sticks, it would be even better still.

I prefer the GameCube/Xbox/360 layout the best for dual analog. Having the analog in neutral thumb position does add a bit more precision over the Playstation/Classic Controller layout in 3D games. I'm also interested in whether the atypical analog placement for the Wii U controllers will be an issue.

Yeah, basically I'm concerned in how using the button interface will be with the right analogue stick being so high. It just looks awkward to press any of the buttons, while also regularly controlling the right stick.

I played with the controller at PAX, and it felt comfortable in my hands. Button layout for me at least, was fine.

I'll find out next week at a sneak peak event in SF. I'm guessing that when you're needing to use both sticks, those face buttons won't be needed.

I played with it a little bit at the Tokyo Game Show today, the controller was comfortable! I only had time to try Tekken though, which only used the left stick and the face buttons.

Hmm, I'd like to ask something. We've been going from analog sticks to buttons in FPSes, platformers, and action games for two generations now. Controlling the camera and attacking, jumping, guarding, firing in Mario, Zelda, Halo, etc. It's always been kind of awkward, but we got used to it. How is changing the positions of the buttons and analog going to make it any more awkward? People went from PS2 to Xbox 360 just fine, which changed the positions of the dpad and analog.

Can you use the Wii Classic Controller/Pro with WiiU games or just for BC purposes with Wii/VC games? Because if you can use it, that would fix the issue if you find high sticks a problem, since it has the sticks in the lower position.

I have a buddy who has. He told me at least for him they felt fine and the controller felt nice. Everyone is different of course.

As for me well I find it no less wierd than going from PS1 to Original Xbox in analog placement

"Surprisingly, the Wii U Gamepad feels much more comfortable and suited for playing Razor’s Edge than the Wii U Pro Controller. I found that the right thumbstick interfered with button pressing on the Pro Controller, which was not at all the case with the Gamepad."
