Could someone please explain, actually draw out how this is accomplished? I understand the artwork is printed. I know that the vector graphics appear reversed horizontally initially, then projected, bounced off a mirror onto an angled piece of ---? Anyway, I can't picture in my head how this actually works. Could someone please draw it out for me? @_@

The vector monitor is facing up at a bit of an angle. Then there is a semi reflective mirror at a 45 degree angle(the bottom edge is in the back of the cabinet near the back edge of the monitor, the top is the front of the cabinet. This way, you see a reflection of the monitor which looks like it's floating in the cabinet. Since the mirror is only partially reflective, you can also see through it to the background image.

Edit--
Here's an image from the service manual...

Oh awesome! Thanks so much. It makes sense now because I didn't know that the mirror was semi-reflective. That's just like the mirrors that teleprompters use. Very cool!

Yeah people thought games that did that were pretty cool back in the day.
