View Full Version : Keeping it small....

I tried searching the threads before posting and got nothing so here goes.
Everyone seems to ask a lot about having big/complete sets for a system. I'm going to go the other way and ask members, is there a system you have very few games for and don't give a shit if you get more? And, how few do you have for each?
I still visit eBay and used games stores but have no real desire to buy more games for these systems.
My small sets:
PS1: 7 games
SNES: 11 games
N64: 13 games

I think my SMS collection is the smallest at 9 - but I'm not in a hurry to add more. The ones that interest me the most are european releases which are harder and more expensive to get here and its not a system I really desire to spend a lot on.

The smallest for me would be the gba and psp then again,i never buy to much for handhelds.Funny enough though "i got plans to get a snes again" and a flashcartridge so i can keep it small.

Not counting SMS games I can use with the Master Gear converter, I think I have something like 3 Game Gear games.
2 for the Lynx.
And a big whopping 1 game for 32x.

Smallest I have would technically be something like Game.com. Lynx is pretty small as well. But I'm assuming the point is more percentage-small, and for that mine is probably Xbox. I think I have 10 or 15 that I'm hanging on to, though many more that are on their way out. I'll keep an occasional game that interests me, but have no plans to add more.

My WonderSwan collection is only five games, including two of the HTF games I'm interested in.
I don't think I plan to add many more to the collection. (though on the bright side, it is the only console besides Wii where I can say every game I own for it is CIB :) ).

I used to collect every CIB games i could find, but I traded a lot of these games because I dont really like them. My Nes collection is now 5 games, super Nes 5, I only keep the games I still enjoy today. Starfox was one of my favorite SNES games, but early 3d has aged badly. I traded a lot of my valuable SNES and NES games for ones I like on other systems or ones I never played.

I only have a dozen GBA games and even less original GameBoy titles. I've never been into collecting Nintendo systems and games, and when I do, I'm usually disappointed and toss them into a drawer after a while.
I have a few PS1 games, and there's stores all around me with shelves stuffed full of games for it, I just have no interest. I pick things up when they are crazy cheap or rare or spark my interest, otherwise I just don't care.
I've got eight or nine Wii games, but my console doesn't work. I bought it used in a thrift for $12, and it had been dropped a few times, screwing up the disc drive. I was going by YouTube videos explaining how to dismantle the console and fix the problem, and in the middle of the procedure, my DSL modem died from a power surge and I never fixed or re-assembled it. It took a month or two to find and sign up with a decent internet provider, and I never found the interest to put the thing back together again.

Probably Gamecube, SMS, Saturn, and PS2. It's not like I won't be buying more games for them but there's so few that I want I know these won't be large collections for me.
I listed the PS1 before but there's probably more games that I'm just not remembering at the moment.

I have one Sega Saturn game, and no system for it.
I would like to start a small collection for that though.

I own one neo geo AES cart and one sega saturn game, but that's only because it's so damned expensive to collect good games for either of them.

I have three games for the Jaguar but the system inexplicably vanished (was more than likely thrown out by my dad) years ago. I can't see myself bothering to grab another one and collecting for it again.

I generally only collect for consoles I own, but somehow managed to pick up one Atari 7800 and one Odyssey2 game over the years. I should probably just get the consoles for these...

I don't really feel the need to get complete sets for any console (save perhaps N64DD someday, as if you can afford the hardware the full game library is fairly small and not all that expensive).
I've taken to trying to really focus my collecting. For the most part I'm content to just have random libraries for each console, made up of games that I find particularly interesting or enjoyable.
In the event that I try to do some limited fullset for a given console, it's usually for something non-retail (i.e. GCN kiosk demos, NDS Download Station carts, etc).
I'm just not a completist. I can't stand buying something I've no interest in just to complete a set when I could instead spend that money/storage space on something I really care about.

I have a PSone and about 7 games I think. Not currently seeking out more games for that.
Also have a PSP and I think 3 games. I have the handheld filled with downloadables, so I doubt I'll look for more UMDs any time soon.

I'm that way with almost all of my systems. I stop buying games for them once the next one has come out. I've had the same 20ish Genesis games since I moved to the N64, the same 40ish N64 games since I moved to the PS and so on. The numbers have gotten bigger from each system to the next, but save for the PS (and DC and NGPC which are full runs) I seem to not go back, so why waste the money.

I have a single MVS cart that I found in a thrift shop for $12 (World Heroes), and I don't even have an MVS. That's probably the smallest "collection" I've got, second would be a handful of Atari carts I've got, and I don't even have a VCS either.
Most other collections I've got are at least over 20 games or so. I mainly stick to Sega stuff but will pick up Nintendo junk when I come across it and if the price is right. $4 Chrono Trigger? Sure I'll take that :p
