"F*ck This Jam" is the game jam (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/game-jam) that asks developers to create games for genres they hate or are just in "utter ignorance" of. Organized by Vlambeer (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/vlambeer)'s Rami Ismail and indie dev Fernando Ramallo, the game jam will take place from November 9 through November 17.

"Hopefully, we will be pushing genres past their preconceived notions and the individual developers to challenge themselves out of their comfort-zone," said Ismail.

Participation is free and open to those across the globe. Folks interested in more info can sign up on the official site (http://fuckthisjam.com/). Now, question: How are they going to assure it isn't 90 percent sportsball games?Continue reading 'F*ck This Jam' tasks devs to create games in genres they don't like (http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/09/f-ck-this-jam-tasks-devs-to-create-games-in-genres-they-dont/)

So, get set for a mass of cookie cutter platformers and half assed RPGs.

Have you played Prinny and Prinny 2? By far the best platformers I've played in a very long time. This is a developer that makes mostly shitty RPGs but when they've ventured off and tried something different, it was like the developer actually knew what they were doing for a change.

If I was to find a dog turd with two relatively shiny gems buried in it, you know what I'd have? Two relatively shiny gems and a dog turd.

Further, Prinny 1/2 was made a well known, highly experienced developer. Even if they aren't in a genre the company normally deals with, they still know how to make a game and sell it. This whole Fuck The Jam Police whatever thing is dealing not with highly experienced developers, but indie bedroom programers. I'm not expecting much more than the standard indie fare, look alike platformers with an odd physics quirk, cookie cutter RPGs with the world is ending plots, a handful of pointless, overpriced, two hour art games and more goddamn Minecraft clones.

I do hope this whole thing surprises me and I'm blown away by what comes out of it. But I doubt it.

I agree that NIS is an experienced developer, but it's sort of the same thing. What if you had a good indie developer that usually makes one style of game to go on the other end of the spectrum and create a game from a different genre. If it's one of their least favorite genres, so something they usually don't do, maybe they'd put more effort into making it a game that they enjoy despite not being a fan of the genre, potentially being a much better game than developers that like the genre and because of that being satisfied with even the most generic game that genre could offer.

I suddenly had an image of that pasted over a poster of a smiling man in a business suit, but instead of "- Rob" it said "Jack Friedman, Head of LJN."

Hey, all experienced bad developers were inexperienced once too, heh.

So, this jam thing is ending today (or tonight, I guess), is there any indication anything came from it? Cause the website doesn't tell me another other than where to sign up and to like the FB page.
