Retro City Rampage (http://www.joystiq.com/game/retro-city-rampage), Vblank Entertainment's insanely in-depth 8-bit parody of classic open-world action tropes, is out now for PC, PS3 and Vita. We mentioned this was happening yesterday with the game's lovely launch trailer (http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/08/prepare-for-the-retro-city-rampage-with-this-trailer/), which we've refrained from embedding above to give you more time to just go out and buy Retro City Rampage already.

Retro City Rampage is available for PC via Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/app/204630/), GOG (http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/retro_city_rampage) and its official site (http://www.retrocityrampage.com/buy.php), and is on PS3 and Vita through PSN and the PS Store, regularly priced at $15. It's 10 percent off on Steam through October 16 ($13.50). I'm getting this just as soon as it comes to XBLA... whenever that may be.

Got it on Steam. It's only 30mb! Assuming it will run on just about anything. Pretty fun so far.

What's the big deal about this game? Someone offered me a PC download code and I turned them down. Should I reconsider?

Haven't played it but it looks like it's a smart homage to 8-bit NES games mostly with a top-town GTA aesthetic (looks like there are some platforming segments and boss fights as well).

I see references in the trailer to GTA, the original NES TMNT game, Smash TV and others ... I'm certainly intrigued, I'm just too busy ATM to give it the attention that I'd like, so I'm holding off (also hoping that it'll get a PSN Plus discount).

I've put about 7 hours into this game thus far. It's one of those "can't put it down, one more try" type of games. There are so many side-missions to do, I've barely progressed in the story mode. The controls are perfect, sound effects are appropriate, and the music is up there with some of the greatest NES games (especially in terms of variety). This game was a gamer's labor of love, and it shows in every pixel. It's exactly what it set out to be: an 8-bit Grand Theft Auto type of game. If that sounds good to you, GET IT!

I'm not sure I'm buying it yet, as I just bought Sound Shapes and want to 'finish it' a little more before I buy something new, but I downloaded the Demo (on Vita) and it's fun.

Really well done so far, in terms of making it totally feel like a game we would have played in the NES days.

And I really like that it uses px to tell you how far away you are from your next objective (which it *wouldn't* have done back in the 80s, but works better anyway :) )

I played this at e3 and it was awesome. Playing with the graphics filters is hilarious. You can make it look like an SMS game or a game boy game. There's also a joke rad racer clone somewhere in it that looks like a virtual boy game. I'm gonna snag it when I get a chance.

Played the demo on Vita yesterday, holy crap it's fun stuff.

Even from what limited stuff is available in the demo you can see that it's an absolute labor of 8-bit love.

I tried the Vita demo, and to me, the game just seems too hectic. Everything is moving so fast. Like the little cut-scenes and everything. There was some cool little tip's of the hat to various 8 bit and 16 bit games, but the game was moving so fast and furious that if you blinked you'd miss it.

Retro City Rampage free this week for Playstation Plus subscribers.

I've been meaning to purchase it but from playing Playstation All Stars and tryinig to finish off some other games I still haven't picked it up yet. This an amazing addition since it was one of those rare digital games I was going to pick up anyways.

Knew it was destined for free on Plus!

Glad I waited!

Glad to see it going free for PS+, although I still stand behind the $15 I spent on this little gem. Still need to go back and finish the rest of those missions, but I keep getting sidetracked by blowing up everything I see...

FYI, dual PS3 and Vita owners,

the PS3 download automatically downloads the Vita version ready to transfer when you download the PS3 game, so save yourself some download time by NOT downloading the Vita version FIRST.
